As A Longtime Amazon Shareholder (Of Consequence), I Just Love That Home Depot & Lowe’s SUCK At Online Shopping.

During the last week I have been foiled & screwed when it came to online shopping with Home Depot & Lowe’s. They are BEYOND useless. Pathetic. But, I am glad. As an Amazon shareholder I am delighted. Better for Amazon & that means better for I & my also my kids. [Yes, my two of my kids do. Amazon is already paying for one to go through College.]

Both Home Depot & Lowe’s are so bad that they come away as sleazy, scamey & scandalous. Well, I have learnt my lesson the very hard way. Screw Home Depot. Screw Lowe’s. I will try to do even MORE shopping via Amazon.

Amazon RULES. Amazon EXCELS. Amazon is AMAZING.

Home Depot sucks.

Lowe’s suck.

Sorry To Say That Amazon’s “Prime Photos” Is Not Ready For Prime Time — By A Long Chalk.

by Anura Guruge

If you read this blog on a regular basis you will know that I am HUGE fan and customer of Amazon. I, in addition to also publishing most of my recent books through Amazon, happen to be a very happy Amazon shareholder. There is not a day that goes by when Amazon is not a part of my life.

Thus it genuinely grieves me to inform you that ‘Amazon Prime Photos’, at present SUCKS.

It is quite PATHETIC.

What is the main problem. It does NOT have the capacity to handle the load. Basically it is having trouble coping with the user load — especially with Amazon also coping with Black Friday/Cyber Monday traffic.

Hopefully down the road Amazon will fix this. They just need to increase capacity.

‘Amazon Prime Photos’ appears to be based on Snapfish.

Right now it is real difficult to upload photos! Not funny.

I have managed, over 2 days, with MULTIPLE retries to load 3,602 photos. It is so slow and error-prone.

Amazon Trade-In Program For Cameras NOT Generous (At All), BUT Convenient & Fast.

by Anura Guruge

As I have shared with you, I am THROUGH with Fuji. That is a shame. I had such high hopes. So I am getting rid of all my Fuji gear — though it is not even 3 months old.

But, I have already taken over 11,000 pictures with this gear. As such I do not feel too bad.

I started, last week, by sending in the Fujinon XF 35mm prime lens to the Amazon trade-in program. I dropped it off with UPS last Wednesday and yesterday I had the money in my Amazon account. Basically 4-days and that spanned the weekend.

They did NOT give me a great price. They gave me the lowest price they had quoted. Yes, I could have refused BUT that would have left me at square-one again — trying to sell this stuff on my own.

The convenience and speed of payment is GREAT. And for that I am willing to take a hit.

Also there is no hassle.

So it is, as with so much in life, a compromise. I am leaving some ‘money on the table’ BUT gaining by saving myself a ton of time and aggravation.

Today I am going to send in my 50-200mm zoom.

Then the Fuji X-E2s camera with the 18-55mm kit lens. And at that point I will be done with Fuji.

I Start Trading-In My Fuji Lenses As I Move Away From Fuji … To Nikon?

by Anura Guruge

The one thing I know for sure is Fuji and I are DONE! Toast. Kaput. Yes, it was an intense and short lived infatuation — though I so wanted to be a dedicated, long term flag bearer for Fuji.

It was last week that I finally and irrevocably decided that I am NOT going to get a Fuji X-T2 — a camera that I had pined for for nearly 9 months. It wasn’t price, it wasn’t availability IT was the appalling autofocus traits of Fuji cameras and their lenses. I really was shocked at how bad Fuji was. It is not something that other Fuji fans appear to want to admit.

Well I had enough after about 70 days — though in that time I had shot 10,000+ images with my Fuji X-E2s and the Fuji X-T1 I rented from Lumoid.

The current plan is to go with Nikon.

And the migration has now started with this trade-in with Amazon.

Ironically today (in the course of shooting 850 images at “Lost River“) I shot the 10,000th image with my soon to erstwhile X-E2s.

MetroCast Delivers 105 Mbps To Alton (N.H.); TDS Falters Then Goes Down!

by Anura Guruge

dahI would be able to appreciate the irony if it was not so frustrating and sad. I pay and get BOTH MetroCast and TDS Internet feeds to the house — mainly for redundancy but also to keep the Internet bandwidth we use for media streaming (read Roku) separate from that I use for ‘work’ (read ‘this’).

So today, for the first time, I have 105 Mbps, actually 107 Mbps, on my MetroCast feed — and I am delighted.

I am trying to watch the Australia vs. India 3rd ODI (on Sling via my Roku 3) when bloody TDS gives up the ghost. The bandwidth fluctuated like crazy for 10 minutes and then it went down for about 3 minutes.

MetroCast rocks, TDS sucks.

That sums it up. TDS has been REALLY bad in Alton over the last 4 months. 80% due to the guy in charge of TDS service in this area. To call him a dozer would be an insult to other dozers. He is that bad. I am THINKING of getting two MetroCast drops — i.e., feeds. It might be worth it.

TDS == Too Damn Slow!
