The Menu Items I would devour — Multiple Times.

I happened to catch it on ‘Shark Tank‘ last night — serendipitously. Just like ALL the ‘sharks’ I too was hooked.

WOW. My type of place. My kind of menu. I am NOT kidding. The ‘Fat Shack‘ sandwich above, could just as well be called ‘Anu Shack‘ sandwich. Made for I. I would eat three of four of those in a sitting. I have a prodigious appetite.

And the burgers. Ahhh! That TRIPLE burger. Again, made for I. Has my name all over it.

Nearest location to I is going to be in Colorado or Texas. But, this Summer I am going. I kid you not. I have to go eat here. I will spend a few nights close vby so I can eat there 4 or 5 times.

What a concept. Wish they would open one at least in New York. I would be on the train tomorrow, if that was the case.

‘Obamacare’ (i.e., ACA) Struck Down In Texas — Sure Glad I Just Got Out.

by Anura Guruge

Click to access MSNBC original. Google for more.

Well ACA, i.e., ObamaCare, still stands because this is sure to go the Supreme Court. But, IF I still relied on ObamaCare for our insurance I would be panicked. But, just last week the last of us got off the ACA system. WOW. What a relief.

I got Medicare in September. The wife already was on Medicare. Third daughter turned 18 in October and as such could apply for coverage on her own. That just left the 12-year old. Since both parents are on Medicare the State is going to cover both these two kids. So, for now, I am DONE with healthcare.gov. What a relief.

But, I feel for those that still have to rely on ACA. For all its faults it was better than anything we had previously.

I really hope ‘they’, i.e., Trump, doesn’t kill it.

The New “Mooyah” In Rochester, NH, For A Double Burger For Lunch.

by Anura Guruge

Click pictures to ENLARGE.

Attribution WILL be enforced.

Mooyah” Burgers ¤ Fries ¤ Shakes opened at the Rochester, New HampshireMarket Basket‘/’Petco‘ shopping area — right next to ‘110 Grill‘ — quite recently.

Since I am partial to burgers, sans the bun, I was eager to try it out.

Got the chance on Tuesday when we went to ‘Market Basket‘. I walked across around 2pm.

Pretty fancy. Wasn’t crowded. LOT of staff — all exceptionally cheerful & friendly.

A tad pricey. More diner-like pricing rather than Wendy’s or Burger King. But, you can make your own burger. I liked that.

It was good. I didn’t have any fries or a shake. NO HOT DOGS.

Gather it is a chain/franchise from Texas.

It is NOT Shake Shack.

I might go again. Might not. Not sure. They didn’t totally ‘wow’ me over, but I am willing to give them a few tries. Must take Teischan. That would be the acid test; whether she gives the burgers a thumbs up. She is a burger connoisseur.

Antonin Scalia — Family Decline Autopsy.

The body of the Supreme Court judge has definitely left Texas and is now enroute to Virginia.

According to ABC News, at 11 pm (on Sunday, Feb. 14), no autopsy was performed in Texas. Family declined to request one. Per Texas law, prior to the body being allowed to be taken out of the State, it was embalmed. Yes, an autopsy can still be done, post-embalming, but a lot of ‘evidence’ will be gone. Shame.

So that is the story. No autopsy.

There is a chance that an autopsy might not be performed. I heard on TV that a local Texas Justice of the Peace (JP) pronounced it a ‘death by natural causes’ over the phone BEFORE seeing the body! That is Texas.

Obama should, via the appropriate channels, insist on an autopsy. It would be a shame if conspiracy rumors continue to circulate.

[I have a personal ‘angle’ when it comes to autopsies. 24 years ago, when my adoptive mother, at 62 and in reasonably decent health other than Parkinson’s, chronic asthma and high blood pressure, passed away — unexpectedly — in her sleep, in Paris (France), my adoptive father, the Sri Lankan Ambassador to France ‘declined’ an autopsy claiming Diplomatic Immunity. 24 years later there are quite a few of us in the family that still have nagging doubts!]

Remembering, With A Shudder, The December 2008 New Hampshire Ice Storm — And Pictures Of What Was Quite Beautiful.

Anura Guruge, June 8, 2013.

Though I have lived in New Hampshire, year around, since 1986, this was but the second major ice storm that I had weathered — the prior one being that, exactly a decade earlier, that hit the Lakes Region quite hard.

In the scheme of things, we, in Alton, got off quite lightly. We were without power for ‘just’ 24 hours. That was before we got our two generators. My biggest concern was keeping this 4-story house warm. I succeeded quite well — to Deanna’s amazement. Yes, we, of course, had the wood stove in the basement going full tilt. I used all the gas burners in the kitchen stove. I even used candles. That the house was but 2 years old and well insulated helped. The temperature in the main living areas of the house dropped about 12 degrees during that time. Yes, of course, we rushed off looking to buy a generator. We drove as far as Biddeford, ME.

But, we lucked out. Deanna’s sister in ‘Rockland’, ME bailed us out. She, a good SEARS customer, located two generators — in Augusta, I think. I told to buy BOTH. She and her husband went and picked them up in their big truck and drove them down to us … in the dark. No sooner did they get here and we unloaded the generators, took them out of their boxes — the power came on. We lucked out.

I was also concerned about the water in the central heating pipes freezing. I LIKE to have antifreeze in those pipes. We hadn’t done that in this house as yet. I got it done that week — by Foley. Foley actually is not in favor of it! They worry about the corrosion it causes and the fact that water with antifreeze, because of its lower density, tends to leak. I still have antifreeze in my pipes BUT they dilute it every year!

But, I strongly recommend antifreeze in your pipes.

Here are some pictures from the ice storm.
It sure was pretty.

As a devout believer in Darwin, I am all in favor of drunk/impaired drivers killing themselves — AS LONG AS they don’t harm anyone else or damage private property. I just wish that there were universal laws that enabled municipalities to go after them for damages and police/EMT expenses.

I also have no problem with people that want to kill themselves doing so — again provided they don’t physically harm others, cause damage to the property of others. Again, I wish municipalities can recoup the enormous costs they incur when these idiots kill themselves. I still remember this incident from when I was living on Varney Point in Gilford. It was in the Spring of 2006. Tesichan was a few months old. As was my wont those days I was walking her, in her front facing ‘backpack’, when EVERY SINGLE fire truck and police car in Gilford screamed into Varney Point with sirens blaring and lights agog. The leading fire truck screeched to a stop next to me, nearly running me over, forcing me to jump off the road, and asked me if I knew where so-and-so lived. Took me a second to place the name. They didn’t even wait for me to respond. Some trucks were going up the hill, police cars were screaming down Varney Point, Right. Why? Some guy had hung himself. Well, as they all admitted to me afterwards, sheepishly, it was too late to do anything by the time they came storming into Varney Point nearly killing me and Teischan. Gravity, as it invariably does, had won the day. I kind of knew the guy. I had spoken to him once — told me that he had a busted front light in his car. But, if that is what he wanted to do, that was fine with me — just don’t cause further collateral damage. That is what God gave us … right? Free will. Just don’t harm others — at least physically.

This guy Robert Dellinger is a disgrace to humanity. Couldn’t he have jumped off a bridge?

What hits close to home, as did the ‘nearly run over’ in Gilford, was that we were on that very same stretch of road, in Lebanon, 12 hours earlier.

Rich guys claiming depression and celebrities with addiction just aggravates me. Losers, in my book.

I really hope they throw the book at Robert Dellinger and he gets to enjoy an active social life in prison.

Then we also have this from Texas. Did you see this? Amazing.

Given his uncanny propensity to say the ‘right’ thing at the wrong time I am dying to find out exactly what he did say Friday night at the fundraiser. From what I can see he has finally found a cause that he can truly support and talk about without getting too much of the facts wrong. This to me really was a match made in heaven. That alone must say something.

The history of the ‘Good Friday Prayer for Jews’ from Wikipedia. Quite good. Read if you are not familiar with this ol’ religious chestnut. Click …

As I pointed out earlier today, this organization ‘The Bush‘ is schooming with tonight is not doing anything that popes haven’t been trying to do for 1,900 years.

If ‘The Bush’ is actually going to touch this thorny, obviously emotive (and controversial) issue, he will be well served IF he sticks, strictly, to the Benedict XVI (#266) 2008 version of the  ‘Good Friday Prayer for Jews‘  — as shown directly above. Though even that is not universally liked it is considerably more flaccid than the original Tridentine version used for centuries. It was Good Pope John XXIII (#262) that had it removed in 1959. Then by mistake it was said during the Mass of 1963. The pope stopped the priest who was reciting the prayer, in mid-stream, in front of thousands, at St. Peter’s, and told him to redo it without THAT word.

So, what will ‘The Bush’ do? I hope he follows John XXIII’s words …

Though I was familiar with all of this for a number of years, I am revelling in it all over again since I am 44% through a new book on the deeds of John XXIII — my 10th book this year.

Not good. Could give the Church a bad name.

I checked to see how prevalent Hepatitis, a notifiable disease over there, actually is in Italy.

These two bishops supposedly caught it, in Rome, in September. They don’t, of course, have the numbers for that period — which was only last month.

But here are the numbers for Jan. – May 2013. 352 cases. So, I guess, and I could be wrong, you have to be damn unlikely to catch it — especially if you are a Catholic Bishop, a direct successor of the Apostles. What chances do mere mortals have if Bishops go around catching hepatitis in Rome.
