English Can Be So Cruel To Foreigners Like Us, Even Those At The Indian “The New Camera” Website.

by Anura Guruge

Another “The New Camera” gem from August 2016.

Why does English insist on being so confusing, confounding, cruel and callous to us foreigners. Why can’t it be simple and logical like Sinhalese (my native tongue) or Hindi (that of “The New Camera”).

‘Fast’ refers to speed, so why is ‘fasten’ not related to speed?

So confusing. It is so bad like with ‘good’. I never understood why it is never good, gooder and goodest. Sounds good to I.

I am convinced it is a conspiracy to make us foreigners sound bad, if just having an accent wasn’t more bad.

This from a few days ago cracked me up
(though I appreciate that it is a common enough typo).

English On “The New Camera” Website Puts Sri Lankans To Shame.

by Anura Guruge

It is a Website I now read, every morning, more or less first thing in the morning — while still in bed drinking my coffee.

When I stumbled upon late last year I just couldn’t believe some of the English that I was encountering. It was classic. It put us Sri Lankans to shame — and check this post to see what I mean. I even left a comment against one of their posts asking whether they planned to ‘refine’ the English because it was kind of getting in the way. They promptly deleted my comment. I then realized that they are indeed very proud of their English.

Usually a day does not go by when I don’t get a chuckle — and that is good. It comes across as a nice hybrid of news and humor.

Here are some recent examples. Click on the image to ENLARGE and ENJOY the snippet here. Use the link below each image to access the original “New Camera” post. OK? Enjoy. Have a giggle. So many Sri Lankans will be so jealous.

Fuji X-70, Per ‘The New Camera’, The Best 2016 Compact Camera Under $700.

Interesting choice. The Fuji X70 is a nice enough camera, but it has two major limitations: no viewfinder and it is a FIXED 18.5mm lens.

Even if you overlook the viewfinder the fixed lens (without a zoom) could prove to be a distraction down the road.

I will confess to having looked at the X70. But just couldn’t see myself being able to use it on an extended period.

Sure it has an APS-C sensor, with 16MP — same as that on my Fuji X-E2s. But at $700, I think, the X70 is ‘neither here nor there’.

But it is worth looking at.

As I predicted just 5 days ago the new revolutionary REFOCUS (at home) on Panasonic cameras, GX8, G7 & FZ300, is NOT good news for Lytro.

Others, Sony, Canon etc. will try to offer the same REFOCUS capability — assuming that Lytro or Panasonic does not have an enforceable patent on it. It could be that the technology is so ‘obvious’ that it could not be patented.

The last $100 DEAL that was required to get the price down to $399 at Amazon appears to have EXPIRED already. Not sure whether that was a ‘scam’ of sorts. But even $499 isn’t bad. My feeling is that the price will CONTINUE to go down!

Panasonic New Refocus (At Home) Feature, on GX8, G7 & FZ300, Is HUGE.

This is HUGE!

This will revolutionize the entire digital camera industry.

It is NOT new. Lytro Illum, as I talked about way back in January 2015, was pushing this concept.

What is it?

The ability to FIX your exact focusing and depth-of-field — and change it if you want (multiple times and different ways) — AFTER a photograph has been taken, using software.

You will never ever again take a picture that is out of focus!

You can get perfect, spot-on focus, with any depth-of-field effect you want, at home — after the pictures is taken.

Yes, it probably will only work with RAW and I, to-date, have resisted using RAW or even any post-processing.

But this HUGE. I am surprised that I am not seeing more coverage of this.

Stay tuned. This could be the end of fuzzy pictures.

Though I keep on telling myself that I have a tryst with destiny with the Fuji X-T2, I have been itching to get a Panasonic G7. Hhhmmm! Yes, the stock market has been VERY GOOD to me.

But, I just wanted to share this with you in case YOU missed it.
