Thank you, Craigie. It was time I got going. Only a week left to ‘Remembrance Day‘ 2019.

Over the last few years I have done a fair amount to educate folks, especially in the U.S., on the ‘Red Poppy‘ significance and our British tradition of ‘Poppy Day‘ — on November 11th each year.

This tutorial, by the ‘mothership’, so to speak, will help.

Wishing YOU A Very Festive ‘Boxing Day 2018’ & With TWO Test Matches It Does NOT Get Better.

I feel bad for the Americans in that they were never blessed to discover and relish ‘Boxing Day‘. It is a wonderful British Holiday, day to chill-out after Christmas and enjoy some sporting action. And IF you are a true Brit there is nothing better than a Test match on Boxing day and this year, i.e., 2018, we have TWO: Australia vs India and South Africa vs Pakistan. I will be watching both of them. Given that Australia is 12-hours ahead of us, I plan to start watching the Australia vs India Test shortly.

Enjoy. Make ‘Boxing Day’ a part of your Christmas ritual. You will be better for it.

Happy ‘Boxing Day 2018’.

THIS IS SERIOUS: The Queen’s Is Without A Piper — Ye Gods!

This is SERIOUS stuff. The Queen without a piper. That is near sacrilegious.

How is that possible. There has to be more to this than they are telling us. No deputy or standby piper.

It isn’t as if OUR GLORIOUS forces are short of a piper or two. I know we have hundreds, if not thousands, within the ranks. Why hasn’t somebody else been drafted in? Very curious.

I am NOT happy. The Queen MUST have a piper. That is so much a part of OUR proud tradition.

Yes, I am fond of Pipers to the Queen. I have been lucky enough to meet TWO.

So why isn’t the Red Poppy MORE popular — let alone ubiquitous as it is in other countries at the start of November — in the U.S.?

I have a theory.

The U.S. did NOT enter World War I until April 6, 1917.

WW I started July 28, 1914.

The Second Battle of Ypres, which is what the poem ‘In Flanders Field’ by Canadian physician Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae, which gave rise to the ‘Red Poppy’ tradition was fought from 22 April – 25 May 1915.

In other words the BASIS for the tradition predates the U.S. involvement though ‘Poppy Day’ itself did not come to be until 1921. Please check ‘Red Poppy’ page, above, for the full illustrated history.

Well that is my theory. I could be wrong.

The Glorious British peerless pageantry at its very best. Makes me so proud to be British.

The Queen’s actual birthday was on April 21. She turned 89!

Trooping the Color is to mark her official, public Birthday. A Royal thing.

Trooping the Colour is a ceremony performed by regiments of the British and Commonwealth armies. It is a Battlefield tradition having to do with displaying once FLAGS that goes back to the 17 century.
