‘Garmin MARQ’ $1,500+ Series: Only To Be Sold Via Garmin & Jewelry Stores!

The MARQ saga is getting crazier and more exasperating by the day. Today’s story, from Garmin, is that the MARQ series will not be available from traditional sport stores in the U.S. — only speciality jewelry stores. This is crazy.

HRM USA, from whom I prefer to get my smartwatches, because of their 45-day returns, VIP UPGRADE club and exemplary support, cannot order MARQs from Garmin. This is not funny. I ‘spoke’ with HRM USA about this — today. They are, of course, not happy about this either.

I hear that the MARQ was listed, albeit briefly, on the Macy’s Website and possibly even Nordstrom.

Something is very fishy. It was announced around March 13, 2019. 7 weeks ago. Initially, as is fairly standard, they said 3 – 5 week availability. Well, we are long past that. Folks are asking.

The newly announced Garmin Forerunner 945 is also NOT currently available from Garmin or Amazon. But, a few LUCKY folks got units from the likes of HRM USA. Also appears that it is more readily available in Europe and in the U.S.A.

Strange.

I don’t like it. Indicates that they are having production issues and that never bodes well.

‘Garmin MARQ’ Smartwatches: Availability Is Now Supposedly 2 – 3 Weeks (From The 3 – 5 Weeks).

3.5 weeks after they were announced Garmin finally got around the updating the availability to say ‘2 – 3 weeks’. I guess that is par for the course for Garmin. But, still nothing on Amazon.

If the Vivoactive 3 roll-out was any indication things could start to rapidly change from this point onwards. So, I guess we are looking at the first week in May.

I am still hoping to get my hands on the ‘Expedition’ model.

There might be nothing awry or amiss, but I find it a tad incongruous. 3-weeks ago when it was announced, Garmin, as is fairly typical for them, said “availability within 3-5 weeks”. OK, so we have now had 3-weeks. Shouldn’t this now say: “availability within 2-3 weeks”?

That there is NOTHING on Amazon is even more curious. Typically they would have pre-orders by now. I remember that from when I was waiting for a Garmin Vivoactive 3.

Maybe this will all change this week. Just a heads-up. I was curious and I do plan to get my hands on one — the Expedition.

He really does seem to be struggling to find good things to say about them. That is not surprising. Like I, he too is concerned about their price and specialization. Garmin makes it sound like you need BOTH the ‘Athlete’ & ‘Expedition’, for a total cost of $2,250, if you are into running, swimming, biking and hiking.

What bothers me most, and this review highlights it, is that this is but an upgrade to the Fenix 5 Plus — but maintaining the same old display technology and most likely most of the innards.

That said, I most likely will get one! {Smile}

I can upgrade my Garmin Fenix 5 Plus for one of the models — most likely the ‘Expedition’. The upgrade path is the only reason I would get one. Makes it reasonably affordable — and crazy not to get so that I will be in line to UPGRADE to the next new watch from Garmin. {Smile}

I will, of course, keep you posted.
