Pope Francis, on Sunday, August 26, 2018, said, in reference to Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò’s explosive allegations and calls for his resignation told reporters: “testimony speaks for itself”.

Well, IF you are interested in reading the entire testimony, in its original form, I have it for you. Just click to download it.

An Archbishop Asking The Pope To Resign Is Unprecedented — Though The Archbishop ‘Is Rogue’.

Alas Archbishop (Retired) Carlo Maria Viganò has ‘A HISTORY’
which puts his credibility on the line.

This is pretty dramatic and unprecedented!

Asking a pope to resign is not a common practice — especially since Pope’s did not typically resign or retire, for whatever reason, until Benedict XVI did so in February 2013, out of the blue. So, asking for a pope to resign didn’t carry any weight prior to that because it was something pope’s didn’t do.

When popes were asked to resign, i.e., abdicate, which was fairly common long time ago it was usually done by an Emperor, a synod, a Council or another pope!

So, for an archbishop to gpo public with this is HUGE. The pope could excommunicate him. I don’t think the pope can do much more — legally.

The problem, here, alas, is that Carlo Maria Viganò now has a history of accusing popes and others of corruption. He figured MAJORLY in Vatileaks. He is a known troublemaker and has already been ‘punished’ (i.e., demoted etc.)

But, this is good.

More people should ask for the pope to resign.

Now if it came from a cardinal we really could have some fireworks.

P.S., I do believe that Benedict XVI retired because he knew that the Clerical Child Abuse Crimes were going to come around to BITE HIM.

U.S. Cardinal James Michael Harvey: An Inspired Choice As Next Camerlengo.

by Anura Guruge

Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Michael_Harvey

There has never been a U.S. Camerlengo. That alone Cardinal Harvey, as a potential candidate, interesting and intriguing. The Vatican has some similarities to NATO — the U.S. is the biggest contributor to its working budget. And it is no secret that since the early 1900s the U.S. Catholics have invariably helped out with conclave costs. So, it would be only fair to appoint a U.S. Camerlengo — given that the next pope, or the one after that … or the one after that will not be American.

James Michael Harvey, had a distinguished career in Rome, as the Prefect of the Papal Household; a post he held for 14-years. But, then, extremely incongruously, he was removed from that position the DAY BEFORE he was created a cardinal. Yes, his replacement was Pope Benedict XVI’s special friend, the handsome and debonair, fellow-German, Archbishop Georg Gänswein (61). So, we might have been trying to read too much into this. Benedict just wanted his friend in charge of his household rather than an American that had been appointed by an ailing John Paul II.

It is also true that ‘Vatileaks‘ came to be during Harvey’s watch and THE BUTLER was arrested six-months prior to Harvey being pushed out. But, this was now 6 years ago.

Harvey has kept his copy book clean.

He has all the qualifications to be a good Camerlengo. He is young, knows the workings of the Vatican inside-out and has demonstrable executive experience.

So, it is a name to think about.

IF you have not noticed things are way out of control at the Vatican. No, it is NOT business as usual. This is outright internecine warfare. Pope Francis appears to revel in being an Agent provocateur. This crazy. Great for me. More grist to the proverbial mill but I feel bad for devout Catholics. The ground is shifting under them.

Alton, NH Once Again Becomes ‘Consistory Central’ For The World Now That Another Consistory Is Announced.

….

A consistory, if that term is unfamiliar to you, is a formal meetings between the pope (in Rome) and his cardinals, always convened by the pope, to discuss Church matters or to create new cardinals. It comes from the Latin consistorium for ‘sitting together’. This said, the consistories that elicit widespread interest are those for creating new cardinals, these on average occurring about once every 2 years.

If the term ‘consistory’ was new there is a chance that you may also not be 100% au fait as to exactly who constitutes a Catholic cardinal. A Catholic cardinals is a ‘Prince of the Church’, the most senior of the ecclesiastical officials in the Catholic Church, created exclusively by the pope, with special, singular responsibility for electing popes and serving as their advisors – though, only those under the age of 80 can now act as electors. The term is from the Latin for ‘hinge’, cardo – and thus denoted, c. 4th century, clerics upon whom the future of Christianity hinged upon.

On Wednesday of this week, October 24, 2012, the current pope, the 85-year old Benedict XVI (#266), totally unexpectedly announced a cardinal creating consistory on Saturday, November 24, 2012 — his 2nd this year and his 5th in his 7.5 years in office.

Most of you probably don’t realize but I am a fairly dedicated papal historian, who has written 3 books about popes and have been cited by Vatican Radio and Rome Reports.

Most of it is right there, on the Right-hand side sidebar (—>>>) if you would just look.

As the author of 2 books entitled ‘The Next Pope‘ I am expected to be an expert on all matters pertaining to the next papal election — and that means cardinals, cardinal electors and the College of Cardinals.

I have two blogs, ‘popes and papacy‘ and ‘papam‘ (Latin for ‘pope’), the former usually updated daily, that deal with most matters related to popes, papacy, cardinals and the next conclave.

I spend ~45% of my research and writing time working on ‘popes’. I specialize in analysis, demographics, statistics, anecdotes (‘stories) and trivia. The blogs are not conventionally ‘Catholic’ in any sense. That is a part of their appeal.

I encourage speculation about the next pope (papabili) and possible new cardinals (cardinalabili). So whenever there is a consistory in the offing, life gets crazy — to the point that in the rush to get stuff done I even screw up, as I did earlier this morning. C’est la vie. Fallibility has always been my faithful handmaiden.

How traffic spikes on ‘Popes and Papacy’ around consistories, i.e., first peak for the February 2012 and now the ramp up for the November 2012. The spike in July was the arrest of the Pope’s butler for Vatileaks. Click to ENLARGE.
