This September 1944 meeting was just 98-days after D-Day but Churchill knew that victory was ‘THEIRS’ — though it would be another 238-days BEFORE VE-Day. Nonetheless, Churchill and FDR discussed how and who would control areas of defeated Germany. But, who was MISSING. Uncle Joe (Joseph Stalin)!
From what I can piece together Churchill took the RMS Queen Mary to Canada — sailing a very southern route to avoid lurking German U-boats.
It was also his 36th wedding anniversary to Clementine.

The mighty, lumbering Lancaster that played such a vital role in bringing the damn Germans to their knees could not participate in this flypast. So only 3 WW II era planes and you can see them in the above video.
MY MAN, Churchill, waving to the crowds in London with them ROARING back “It was YOUR victory” once he had told them that “It was YOUR victory”. THEY knew who had won the WAR for whom.
From (of course) the U.K. Daily Mail (my favorite paper of all times). Click to ENLARGE and savor. The day after the Parliamentary Election. Beautiful site. So British. Makes me SO proud but also very homesick. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/ushome/index.html
It is good that Google remembered BUT how can THEY get it so, so wrong!
VE day, Victory Europe, was NOT, I repeat NOT, the end of World War II. The bloody Japanese still had to be subdued! There was a bomb involved. Doesn’t Google know U.S. history?
Google’s “Remembering WW II” online exhibition. Check it out. Do a Google and go to footnote.
