‘Vera’ (Detective Show) — Unjustifiable Bias Towards Interracial Couples Is Starting To Ruin The Show!

We (and by that I mean all of us in the household) LOVE the show. ‘Vera’ has become one of our FAVORITE British shows. Just do a quick search (here) for my rave blog posts.

The show has always made a point of showing a varied cast — with non-whites in every episode. That is GOOD. And I appreciate that MY Britain is very multiracial. Love the trouble they have gone to be inclusive.

I also have no issues whatsoever with INTERRACIAL RELATIONSHIPS & MARRIAGES.

Let’s face it. I, literally, have SKIN in the game. Every relationship and marriage I have had has been interracial. So, I have NO problem with them. But, at the same time I do not want anyone demeaning them — and, of course, NOT taking the mickey out of them! And it has come to that with ‘Vera’ Season 10. Four episodes so far, and EVERY ONE has had an interracial couple. That is TOO MUCH. That is too in your face. I am no longer amused.

Yes, I looked up the stats. Interracial marriages, though on the rise (as it should be), still accounts for less than 10%. Way, way, way lower than in the U.S.

The show’s obsession is misplaced.

Well, this was bothering I. It genuinely was. It was getting in the way. I had to write this. SMILE.

‘Vera’ has become one of our FAVORITE British shows — with ‘Downton‘ & ‘Shetland‘ the only others in that very top echelon. Teischan loves the show. She is re-watching all of the earlier seasons and I think she has watched some of the episodes more than twice — already.

She was so happy that there is a Season 10. I am glad too.

We watched the first half of episode 1 today. We didn’t notice any obvious changes from the last two seasons. The same main characters and they don’t seem to have aged or changed. They are sticking, faithfully, to the tried, tested and proven formula. Nothing wrong with that. We love it like that. Can’t comment on the story as yet since we haven’t seen all of it. So far, so good. The usual twists and surprises.

Well, just wanted to make sure you knew that ‘Vera’ was BACK.

“Shetland” Detective Series On ‘Britbox’ & ‘Prime’ — Just Amazing, The Best Of The Lot, Better Than ‘Vera’!

by Anura Guruge

Yes, I know that it is probably sacrilegious to say ‘better than Vera‘ — BUT, it is! We, as always, serendipitously, stumbled upon it on ‘Britbox‘ when they started advertising Season 5 (a couple of months ago). We watched Episode 1. It was good. But, we had to wait a whole week to see Episode 2. That was good too. We were hooked. Couldn’t wait another week. So, we watched Season 4, which was also available on ‘Britbox’ — all the way through. Loved it. Better than ‘Loch Ness‘, ‘Then There Were None‘ etc. etc. Better than Vera. Did I already say that?

Then went back to Season 5. Now we were hooked.

Found Seasons 1, 2 & 3 on Amazon Prime. You had to buy them (and they were NOT ‘cheap’). But, hey … you have to pay for quality. So, we watched all of that too.

We have watched ALL of it. Now we are lost.

Very, very good show. Amazing stories. Very good acting. Great drama. Breathtaking scenery. Fast moving. Cleverly done. Must watch.

Highly recommended.

Yes, we have all become very fond of ‘Vera’ — but Teischan (13, as of yesterday) just ADORES the series. She gets like that … “Downton Abbey“, “Mr. Selfridge”, “Victoria“, “Place to Call Home” etc.

So, when I discovered that Britbox had more ‘Vera‘ episodes I really couldn’t deprive her. So, this was my birthday present to her — though she says that I am just saying that, and I wanted it too. {She, as usual, may have a point.} At $6/month it isn’t as if it will break the bank.

Just watched one episode of ‘Vera’. No problems. Basically the same quality as ‘Acorn‘. So, that is good.

Lot of stuff. Haven’t really browsed all of it. But, will keep you posted.

God save the Queen.

We watch a fair bit of ‘Acorn TV‘ — of late, the rather addictive detective series ‘Vera‘. Happen to see ‘Marvellous’ in the ‘New Releases’ section. Recognised Toby Jones, from the ‘Detectorists‘ and ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom‘, and knew that it would be worth watching. It sure was. It was a TREAT. Really was marvellous in all respects. A TRUE STORY and the real person makes cameo appearances in the movie.

Very well done. Really warms the cockles of your heart. You really should watch it. It is available, full-length, on YouTube.

I really liked. I might try and read the book. That is how much I liked and enjoyed this movie.

“Vera” Detective Series On “Acorn” Is Very Sophisticated, Touchingly Wry & Extremely British.

As I have mentioned here of late, Teischan (12) has become enthralled with British murder/mysteries of the Agatha Christie ilk. So, during our 90-minutes of family TV we try and watch shows that meet this criteria. Acorn — i.e., British TV for the U.S. — is obviously the best place to go looking, and since we subscribe it is not a problem.

We stumbled upon ‘Vera’ last week. We have watched 3.5 episodes so far and have been mesmerized. Very sophisticated, very clever, very complex plots. You can never guess who the perpetrator is going to be. Lots of twists and turns. Keeps you engrossed until the very end.

Really, really good. Teischan, who is highly critical on what she likes and doesn’t like, reckons that this is the BEST that she has seen! Coming from her that is indeed high praise. I definitely recommend it. Also features the picturesque but rugged Northumberland countryside (that I used to be somewhat familiar with).

Well, if you have access to Acorn, try it out. You will not regret it. Promise.
