That was quite the sunset on what was a monumental day. First saw it through the window. Got in the car & drove about .75-mile to a slight rise to get these pictures.

It sure looked like nature was celebrating Biden’s victory.

My Man, Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery, Was Born This Day, 130-Years Ago.

Wow. He sounds like Winston Churchill!

Our Monty. Named after the GREAT MAN.

I waxed lyrical about him just 25-days ago! So, I will keep this succinct.

Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery, 1st Viscount Montgomery of Alamein, KG, GCB, DSO, PC, DL  a man I revere.

One of my GREAT heroes. I paid him the ultimate compliment that I can. I named a Golden after him … as I had done with Winston & Ulysses.

He is a source of inspiration and GREAT PRIDE. What a MAN. We would NOT be ‘here’ speaking English if NOT for him.

Just spare a second to think of what Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery did for US.

The ‘Second Battle of El Alamein’, That Changed The Trajectory Of WW II, Started This Day, 75-Years Ago.

The stuff of legends. The stuff that I, as a boy, grew up on — per the glorious British heritage.

Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery. What a MAN. He and Winston Churchill. What more could you ask for in terms of heroes.

El Alamein. It was so important in history that the Viscountcy given to Monty, in 1946, was called ‘Alamein’ — despite it being a town in Egypt.

Exactly 75-years ago.

I will raise a glass of red today to Monty and this decisive battle and give thanks.

The ‘Battle Of Trafalgar’, A Glorious British Naval Victory, Took Place This Day, 212-Years Ago.

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE and read. Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Trafalgar

Those were the DAYS, my friend. Yes, our magnificent navy still rules supreme BUT I am not sure that we can now claim to rule the waves. Pity.

But, that we just launched the HMS Queen Elizabeth, the Royal Navy’s largest ever ship is something to be happy and proud about.

The ‘Battle of Trafalgar’, something we all know about intrinsically. That we do have, smack dab in the middle of London, Trafalgar Square with Lord Nelson rampant, is always a reminder.

So, a day to rejoice. As such, PLEASE join me in this rousing rendition of ‘Rule Britannia, Britannia rules the waves ..

Famous & Climatic Victory By Sri Lanka Over Pakistan In The 1st Test In Abu Dhabi.

by Anura Guruge

From ‘cricinfo.com’ at: espncricinfo.com/series

Impressive stuff — BUT I have seen Sri Lanka do this, i.e., defend a small total on a turning 5th-day pitch with their gifted spinners, in this case Rangana Herath. That he got 400 wickets at the conclusion is quite an achievement. But, at 39, it is unlikely he will get much beyond 500 — at that. So, he will not be challenging those high in the table.

Once Pakistan lost 4 wickets I knew their goose was cooked.

Sri Lanka did well, especially after the 0-9 drubbing they had received from India last month.

The last 1.5 days were exciting. Good Test cricket. This was good for the game and GOOD for Sri Lanka. I am glad.

Vive la France. Vive la Macron. We Scored One For The Backlash. Rejoice!

by Anura Guruge

Vive la France!

Thank YOU, Monsieur Macron.

That was quite the win despite the Russian interference.

Well done. Bravo. Kudos.

Thank YOU.

This is a GREAT relief.

It is a WIN for ‘us’. Obama openly supported Macron; not so Agent Orange.

I have lived in France,

The Start Of What Would Be The ‘Falklands War’ Happened This Day, 35-Years Ago — March 19, 1982.

hjby Anura Guruge

What a WAR!

It was the only war that I was totally and utterly ‘invested’ in emotionally.

I so wanted us, THE BRITS, to prevail and prevail big.

I followed every twist-and-turn, despairing when we suffered a loss and jubilant when we enjoyed a success.

The night of the victory, June 14, 1982, I was hosting a pre-arranged customer dinner (as was a part of my job) at a restaurant on the outskirts of London. It turned out to be quite the party. I was buying drinks for all. Didn’t care about the cost. I did have a ‘no questions asked’ expense account for entertainment BUT I think I paid for that money on one of my credit cards. It was well worth it.

What a glorious victory.

THANK YOU Mrs. Thatcher. You were great.

MY MAN, Churchill, waving to the crowds in London with them ROARING back “It was YOUR victory” once he had told them that “It was YOUR victory”. THEY knew who had won the WAR for whom.

From (of course) the U.K. Daily Mail (my favorite paper of all times). Click to ENLARGE and savor. The day after the Parliamentary Election. Beautiful site. So British. Makes me SO proud but also very homesick. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/ushome/index.html

It is good that Google remembered
BUT how can THEY get it so, so wrong!

VE day, Victory Europe, was NOT, I repeat NOT,
the end of World War II.
The bloody Japanese still had to be subdued!
There was a bomb involved. Doesn’t Google know U.S. history?

For those of us who were in Britain, the Falkland’s War of 1982 was a very big, emotional deal. We so rooted for our Task Force and so bummed with the bloody frogs (even though my parents were living in Paris) for supplying the enemy with Exocet missiles. I was Customer Support Manager for ITT (UK) at the time and did a lot of driving from one customer site to another. I was glued to the news. So wanted to make sure we won. And what a party we threw the night we won. What a victory. It was a great time.
