NOT going to Christmas Revels this year (viz. 2020) has been the BIGGEST impact COVID-19 has had on my life!

I was worried that this would come to pass in May 2020 — & ALAS it did.

I checked it out. IT IS GOOD. Well worth the money to rent or even BUY.

We have to SUPPORT Revels. We need them back, LIVE, in 2021.

So, come on. Be a sport. It is Christmas.

It will cheer you UP. SMILE.

NO LIVE ‘Christmas Revels’ 2020 In Cambridge, MA — I Am Beyond Crushed, My WORST COVID Nightmare.

by Anura Guruge

My family will testify that I had been DREADING this — i.e., NO live Cambridge Revels — for MONTHS! I just had a horrible feeling. I am crushed. Feel cheated by COVID, feel lost. Yes, I fully appreciate that in the bigger scheme of things that this is but mere bagatelle, but it is something that I truly look forward to year-to-year.

Way back, maybe as early as April, I was going around saying: “I hope Christmas Revels will not get cancelled“. Just a few few ago, my 14-year old daughter, who also likes her Revels assured me that there was plenty of time for them to get the show on stage. I knew otherwise & it has proved to be the case. I am crushed.

Truth be told the COVID-19 pandemic did not impact me much. This was the biggest & bitterest blow.

I am a bit of recluse as the best of times. Other than my mandatory daily walks (including the mile at night) I can go 5-days without ever getting in a car to go anywhere (& I do have 5-cars). I am happy to be at home & write. Plus Teischan was already been homeschooled. So, there was no change there.

Yes, I do miss going out to eat. That is a big change. I probably used to eat out at least 4-times a month. Now I haven’t even done fast food or take out in 5-months. But, it hasn’t bothered me too much. I still eat & I can always afford to lose some weight.

Vacations was another change. Normally, at a minimum, we would have gone to Acadia for a few days at the end of June. But, we have been compensating for that with our weekly, day-trips. Plus, we have something planned for later.

But, Revels. Aahhhh!

I am crushed. Teischan & I had already planned to go to the LAST showing — which used to be our custom. Same with the circus. Go for the last performance (in town). Now nothing.

Virtual does NOT cut it with I.

I understand. It would have been near impossible to have pulled it off. But, I am, nonetheless, sad.

2020 will NOT feel right without Revels.

I will always blame COVID-19 for depriving us of Revels.

‘Prospect Mountain High School’ (PMHS), Alton (NH), 2020 Virtual Graduation At ‘The Circle’ — ALL The Pictures.

The 2020 Graduates.

I appear to have 107. I hope I caught them all.

This ‘Virtual Graduation‘ tickled my fancy though I did feel bad for the kids.

In my first post on this, on May 7, I did say: “I will try and snap others if I see them and keep on adding to this gallery“. Well, I always TRY to live up to promises I make.

I am glad I stopped & walked around. I am used to walking around ‘The Circle’. It scares me not, & walking is not a problem. Glad I did.

Saw the pictures of two ‘kids’ I have known for close onto 10-years. That made me smile. I was glad. Quite a few names I recognized.

Well, congratulations. Well done.

Hope these pictures help. This post should be around for a LONG TIME. It is not going anywhere.

All the best. Cheers.

From last year.

‘Prospect Mountain High School’, Alton (NH), 2020 Virtual Graduation.

I feel bad. Wow. Devanee graduated from Prospect just last year. This could have been her.

These are the only 3 signs I have seen so far on my walks — but then again I haven’t ventured too far from home.

One is on our road. The other two are within 1/2-mile.

I will try and snap others if I see them and keep on adding to this gallery.

I really do feel bad for the kids. I have experienced 3 graduations — 4 kids, 3 graduated (so far). It is such a shame. Missing out on the celebrations. And the Prom. But, they can talk about it for the rest of their lives. Their missed graduation & prom. Hopefully these pictures will help. These will probably be on the Web forever. Let’s hope so.

All the best. Congratulations.

From last year.

>> Removing Our 5th Grader From ACS and Homeschooling Her!
>>Feb. 23, 2012.

Deanna found out about this amazing resource through her extensive homeschooling network. It is pretty impressive. It uses the virtual ‘BlackBoard’ technology called ‘WhizIQ‘– the same technology used by most of the U.S. Universities and College for their distant learning or hybrid courses. I actually used it, 11 years ago when I taught grad and post-grad courses at Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU).

Devanee has been using it, quite successfully and productively, since about October of last year. VLAC actually has assigned teachers that monitor her progress and actually call her up on the phone and talk to her! That is awesome. The Web-based technology is good and they even have a Help Desk for technical problems. Suffice to say parents can check on progress and grades online. And all of this is FREE. Kudos to all concerned.

There is a lot of material and it is good. Actually top notch. It is also not restricted to homeschoolers. Other kids could use it as an adjunct.

I hope that there funding is secure and if anything Concord makes sure that they can thrive. This is a great thing for New Hampshire. We should be very proud and support it.
