It was beyond a dream start. A wicket with his 1st ball in IPL! Wow. Doesn’t get any better and it was David Warner’s wicket. Impressive.

Then break the record for the BEST BOWLING figures in the IPL — on debut.

And his mother died less than two months ago. Talk about the ups and downs.

Nice unassuming kid. Looks like a great prospect.

His bowling got some stick in the 2nd match and he didn’t take a wicket. But, then he shone with a bat, getting the winning runs in a mammoth runrace. His team seems to adore him. This is all good.

I am pleased. I like him. Something about him. Reminds me of the young, brooding Andy Roberts — who I knew from his days in Hampshire.

Vivo IPL 2019 — First 4-Matches Have Been Scintillating.

I have been watching Vivo IPL 2019 on ‘Hotstar‘ on my Roku.

Watching ANY cricket on ‘Hotstar’ is extremely depressing & frustrating because they show the results in the program description! They can’t help it. ‘Hotstar’ is the most unprofessional and dishonest company in the known Universe.

They also have decided that 23-minutes is the optimum length for a highlights package. Oh, they are not too smart either. Just smart when it comes to dishonesty.

The cricket has been outstanding. Hotstar spoils it.

I have just learnt that the 2019 World Cup will be on Hotstar. Jesus wept. They will totally screw it up.

Vivo IPL 2019 On Roku Is On ‘Hotstart’ & NOT On Willow TV (Sling).

Willow TV did it AGAIN.

Even this morning, on Roku/Sling it was showing upcoming Vivo IPL 2019 matches.

But, this evening they were ALL gone.

Yes, it appears that it all has to do with the definition of ‘streaming’.

Vivo IPL 2019 is available on Willow — BUT not on Roku/Sling!

Luckily I already had Hotstar.

So, now YOU know.

Enjoy.

Already watched the highlights of Match 1. SMILE>

‘Hotstar USA’, On Roku, Is But A Disgraceful Indian HORROR Show.

by Anura Guruge

The ‘Hotstar’ APP for the Roku is full of bugs!

For a start it lacks an account management option. I kid YOU not. Everything has to be done through your Roku account.

This means that renewals do NOT work! It is an unmitigated disaster. A typical Indian horror show.

It might be fine on a PC or phone, BUT NOT on Roku. Trust me on this.

Plus, watching the Vivo IPL on ‘Hotstar’ is near impossible.

‘Hotstar’ is for Indian kids with ADHD.

I am DONE!

I Canceled Sling TV/Willow As Promised — Enough With Their Duplicity & Lack Of Cricket.

by Anura Guruge

My subscription did not end till this Sunday, i.e., April 22, 2018. So there wasn’t any point cancelling it earlier.

But, as promised, I did. Had it with Sling. It is a very duplicitous outfit. All they try to do is screw you.

Hotstar” is NOT great. After the first two matches they again stopped having full-length, ball-by-ball replays. You can watch it live, but after that it is only SHORT, unsatisfying snippets.

Not sure what I am going to do come June and IPL 2018 is over.

You Can Get “Willow (Cricket)” With Vivo IPL 2018 On DISH — But You Will Need TWO Dishes!

by Anura Guruge

The proper Willow TV cricket coverage is available on DISH, for $14.99/month, BUT you need two dishes, i.e., if you only have ONE DISH you need a second installed and that is a PAIN.

Why do you need TWO?

The so called ‘International‘ channels are broadcast by a separate satellite which in a different spot in the sky.

I remembered this from 11-years ago when I first got DISH with cricket. Needed to have two antennas installed! Then I moved to ‘Sling‘ …

I tried last week to get Willow TV on DISH and ran into the 2nd DISH requirement. I could NOT be bothered since I plan to get rid of DISH before the Summer.

So, just a heads up.

You can have it, BIT you will have to wait for a DISH installation — and possibly have to pay around $100 for the privilege!

I Stand By My Claim That “Hotstar” Is NOT For True Cricket Lovers!

by Anura Guruge

Pictures off my 47″ TV using my Google Pixel 2 phone.

OK, on Sunday (Day 2), I discovered that “Hotstar” live streams some of the IPL games, in full, and that there were full-length, versions of Match # 2 & Match #3. [Refer to images 1 & 2 above.]

But, NOT of Match #1. It says it is there, but all 10 hours of it is the IPL Auction! So, that is the bummer.

So, why am I still complaining?

Because, unless you watch ‘live’, which is not practical to most of us, you get SCREWED in terms of knowing the outcome of the match BEFORE you get around to watching it.

What fun is that in a T20?

So, here is the problem — and you can see it, clearly, in image 3 (above).

Before you can get to the replay you want, you are going to see ‘headlines’ like: “Ruthless Narine Slams 19-Ball 50“. So, now there is no suspense. You know Narine is NOT going to get out until he scores 50.

This is a bloody joke.

This IPL coverage is for those with ADHD and on drugs.

It is NOT serious cricket coverage. The cricket has been trivialized for the mobile phone set.

IF you are a genuine cricket fan like I, you will understand … you will appreciate.

This is NOT cricket!

Vivo IPL 2018 On “Hotstar” Is NOT For True Cricket Lovers!

by Anura Guruge

Vivo IPL 2018 coverage on “Hotstar” is NOT for serious cricket fans. It is basically a series of clips.

The HIGHLIGHTS package is 17-minutes! You can see that on picture 2.

17-minute.

I don’t even like 30-minute highlights on Willow. You just need to see more of the game to get the context and feel.

In 17-minutes all you get is ‘crash-bang-wallop’.

Very disappointed.

With T20 matches I like to see all 240-balls. A T20 match lasts about 3:45 hours and on Willow you could, most times, watch a whole game.

Moreover, they blast captions such as “CSK’s Great Escape …” all over the place. So, you know CSK must have won.

Very poor. Very poor. I am crushed.

It is “OK” for FREE, BUT I am NOT going to pay $9.99.

So, you have now been warned.

Update: Sunday, April 8, 2018

Today, when I went back to “Hotstar” I found at least one full-length match (i.e., Match #2) and Match #3 playing LIVE.

A supposed full replay of Match #1 was 10-hours of the ‘IPL Auction’.

I will try and check the full matches out tonight.

If they do have Full Matches — that would be GOOD and I will retract my statements.

But, as of now, I need to do more research.

“Hotstar” is a MESS. It is not structured to suit the serious cricket watcher.

Obviously run by young, excitable ADHD Indians on too much ganja

Vivo IPL 2018 ‘Opening Ceremony’ Is On “Hotstar (US)”.

by Anura Guruge

I am still finding my way around “Hotstar” when it comes to their Vivo IPL 2018 coverage. I haven’t had much time to devote to it given that I only signed up late last night.

I have watched a few short clips from prior years, the auction and lead-up to 2018 etc. In general the video quality is good — though the clips tend to be quite short.

I did watch about 20-minutes of the 2018 ‘Opening Ceremony‘. It was all there — at least in those 20-minutes — without anything omitted. Quality was good.

I am going to try and watch the highlights of the first game shortly — while I have my dinner. I will let you know.

This was to give you a quick heads up.
