Garmin Vivoactive 3 GPS Is 100% Accurate Measuring Marathon Run; Others Not So Good.

This article held no surprises for I. I knew the Garmin Vivoactive 3 GPS was pretty accurate. I had clocked it against a car odometer — albeit in the 3.5-mile range, rather than at the marathon distance.

That the Garmin Vivosmart 4 was inaccurate should not be a earth-shattering. It doesn’t have GPS.

That most of the other watches were quite inaccurate too is more of a concern. I owned a Samsung S3 Frontier. That, at the 2-3 mile range, was pretty accurate.

I owned two Vivoactive 3s and a Vivoactive HR prior to that. I then graduated to a Fenix 5 and then to a Fenix 5 Plus. I have checked the GPS on the Fenix 5(+) and have no major issues.

But, this is sobering.

I tested a low-end Fitbit recently and could not believe how inaccurate it was. It was a joke.

I Am Now Backfilling For Garmin Customer Support On The Vivoactive 3.

by Anura Guruge

This was on my FacebookVivoactive 3‘ page today.

I get quite a few messages like this seeking customer support. First thing I do is point out that I am NOT Garmin. Then, if I can I try to help since I recall all the times I felt so helpless trying to get meaningful support from Garmin.

This was the 2nd Vivoactive 3 ‘HELP’ I had today.

It is a Sunday, so their chance of even contacting anybody at Garmin is ZERO.

This was a fairly easy one (at least for I, in that I had seen it before).

The date and time on the VA 3 was off — in this case by 9-days!

But, I knew that a sync with a phone or a GPS fix should cure that. And it did.

She, as you can see, was happy. That makes me HAPPY. Another good deed for the day.

IF Garmin had any sense they would hire me to provide real good weekend support. {Smile}

I Have Now Had My Fitbit Ionic For 59-Days; Longer Than Either Of The Garmin Vivoactive 3s.

That I had it, and worn it, for 59-days does NOT mean that I like it or intend to keep it for much longer!

It’s ONLY redeeming feature has been that it has not died on me as did the Garmin Vivoactive 3s.

But, the Fitbit Ionic is not accurate. All the stats, especially heart rate, feels suspect. I think altitude/elevation is pure fabrication.

It is per the Lewis Carroll adage “that a watch that doesn’t work is better than one that is one-minute late, in that the one that is broken will tell the correct time twice a day” WORSE than one that is frozen.

I do NOT like the Fitbit Ionic. It has nothing going for it.

I am going to wear it till March 2, 2018 — just so that I can say I had it for 3-months. At that point I am getting another Garmin, now most likely a Garmin Forerunner 935. Why a Garmin. Because it gives me more data and does so on the watch. Plus, the FR 935 is rugged and proven.

Stay tuned. The sorry saga continues.
