Today’s Gallery Of Flowers — June 11, 2021.

by Anura Guruge

The atypical heat wave is gone. We had some rain. Flowers are back in force. Quite the show today. So, I had to SHARE them with YOU. Enjoy.

Today’s Batch Of Flowers — June 8, 2021.

by Anura Guruge

It has been very hot the last 4-days. The heat is taking a toll on some of the flowers. Kind of distressing to see that some have withered & died. But, I think it is going to be cooler & more seasonal as of tomorrow. We could also do with some rain.

Some Of The Flowers That Regaled Me Today — June 7, 2021.

by Anura Guruge

Hottest day this Summer. But, I still plodded along. But, was rewarded with all these glorious displays of flowers. Makes up for the 5-months of snow that I trudge through — quite literally.

I Could Not Stop Tripping Over Flowers Today — June 5, 2021.

by Anura Guruge

It was very hot today, 85F. But, I still did my 2-hour, 4.5-mile walk, though I only took the dogs for very short stints. Too hot for them — but I am OK with the heat. Seeing all these flowers made it rather COOL. Enjoy.

Today We Picked 10 Ticks Off Our Harrier, Braxton!

by Anura Guruge

Yes, that is ‘Braxton’ our 7.5-year old Harrier. Yes, basically a bigger beagle. A British hunting dog.
Notice that unlike a Beagle he has no black.

If you count the ticks in the bowl it only comes to 9. I know. But, I picked one, straight from his nose before I brought him into the house. I needed help to remove the rest. Deanna picked the 9 above. She has better nails.

This is crazy. Early in the season & I did NOT take him in the woods. He walked on the road — albeit a dirt road.

Yes, we do spray stuff on them. Nothing seems to work & trust we we have tried so many things. Last night I ordered ‘K9 advantix II‘ from Amazon. That should be here by mid-week.

Quite The Snowstorm Today In Central New Hampshire — Mid-April Be Damned.

by Anura Guruge

Well we were given plenty of warning. The weather forecasters were talking about this nearly a week ago. I think they were quite chuffed that they got it right & saw it coming a week ago.

Given that we were close to 70°F two-days ago this was quite the change.

Yes, having lived in New Hampshire for 36-years I am used to seeing snow in April & May — & possibly even June.

This was quite the storm. The snow was coming down in HUGE blobs. Heavy. But, the air temperature was always slightly above freezing. So, the snow would melt on dark surfaces — especially roads.

Though the heavy snow stopped in the afternoon it was still sleeting at 11pm when I went for my evening walk. Not nice.

Well, I thought you might like to see what it looked like.

A Mini-Blizzard Last Night As I Was Out Walking At 11pm.

by Anura Guruge

Per the weather forecast, which I had watched twice during the day, there was not meant to be any precipitation — particularly not around 11pm. Just bitterly cold & windy.

Well, as is my wont, I set off for my brisk, 1-mile, 11pm after-dinner constitution — accompanied (as of late) by Braxton, off-leash — around 10:50pm. It was dry when I left the house. Then it just burst forth. A mini-blizzard. Whiteout conditions. I was glad that I was NOT driving. I was only out, max, for 25-minutes. See how much snow I accumulated. It was ‘fun’. Certainly was an experience.

I Do NOT Let A 28-Day February, With Some Bitterly Cold Days, Get In The Way Of My 500,000-Steps/Month Goal.

by Anura Guruge

I only started this 500,000-steps/month goal last May (i.e., May 2020). Kind of walked that without setting out to do so, But, when I realized that I had walked 500,000 steps, I LIKED it. Decided to make it a goal. The following month, June 2020, was 30-days. Ooops! One day makes a difference.

I then decided that I will not let 30-day months get in the way. One days was not that difficult to surmount.

So, this was my 1st February.

I have, ever since moving to New Hampshire 36-years ago, HATED, LOATHED, February. Coldest & cruelest month of the year. IF not for February New Hampshire winters would not be so harsh & bitter.

Well, I set out to see what I could do. I did the sums. I had to walk, on average, 1,000 more steps a day than on other months. So, that is what I did. I like to bank up steps on good days. So, in February I did quite a few 20K days. That helped.

So, my streak is still going. 8-months & counting. SMILE.

Yet Again I Defy A Snow Storm & Walk For 2-Hours To Achieve My 500,000+ Steps/Month Goal.

by Anura Guruge

In December. That was a bigger storm — but I took this picture EARLIER in the walk.

Today’s picture was at the end, with 2-hours of snow in ‘my hair’. SMILE.

They got it wrong again. We weren’t supposed to get any snow till noon. Well, it started snowing, pretty steadily, around 9:30am. Well, I had to go for my 2-hour walk. I did.

At long last I have FINALLY learnt to dress warm for winter. So, this was what I looked like when I got back.

Commitment To Walk 500,000+ Steps/Month Means You Have To BRAVE Storms — Even TORRENTIAL Rain.

by Anura Guruge

WOW. It bucketed down today — till mid-afternoon. Torrential rain & gusty winds. WHAT TO DO?

I could have tried waiting until it stopped — BUT then it might be getting dark, & I PREFER to limit my ‘night walks‘ to 2-miles or below. Plus, I wasn’t sure whether the dog wanted to go out. He did NOT. He was NOT having anything to do with this weather.

I, as I had done a month ago, wore TWO layers of outerwear. It kind of works. Outer latey gets soaked.

Snow is ALWAY much better than rain! Trust me. I know. Rain is wet. Snow not as much. When the ground is FROZEN (as it was today) they are BOTH slippery. That was an issue.

I wear the yellow glasses to keep the rain from my eyes. Pretty simple. Logical.

Well, I did 10,589 steps in this rain. SMILE. Felt good. I was SOAKED. But, I think I will live.
