Winter Storm “Noah”, February 17 – 18, 2018, dumped much more snow over Central New Hampshire than had been forecast. It was said to be a ‘Southern Storm’ meaning that snow totals tapered off further north you were — and we are pretty far north.

Well they got it WRONG. It was claimed we would get 3″ tops. We got around 7″.

But, it was very light, fluffy snow. Very easy to shovel.

Plus, the sun was out in force Sunday morning. So, it was very pretty and quite warm.

Enjoy these pictures.

It Helps To Be Truly “Warm-Blooded” If You Live In “Live Free Or Die” New Hampshire.

As I said last week in my “The Definition & Picture Of “Warm-Blooded” post, there is something about being a ‘Guruge’ in New Hampshire. We somehow are more immune to the cold than most and I have no explanation, whatsoever, given that I grew up in a clime where the temperature, even at night, never fell below 70°F.

Teischan is the best or worst of the lot. Last week it was 40°F (-0.5°C). About 7″ of snow dumped by Winter Storm “Noah”.

Yes, we had spent 20 minutes shoveling snow vigorously. She was HOT and dumped her jacket on the van. (See below.) Then for the next 30 minutes she pranced around like this, in the snow, with the dogs while I continued to shovel. I was hot too. I thought about shoveling in my sweatshirt — which was a trademark not that long ago. But, now in my dotage I try to be careful. So, I sweated instead.

Alton Bay “Airport On Ice” 2018 Ready To Roll — But Lacks Planes.

I had read, on Thursday, that the runway had been cleared of snow and that the 2018 ‘Airport on Ice‘, on Alton Bay, on Lake Winnipesaukee, NH, was ready for action.

Given that Saturday was warm (i.e., 40°F (4.4°C)) with nary a gust of wind I expected to see a stream of planes landing and taking off. Bit crushed that it was EMPTY when we swung by around 2pm. There might have been a few planes earlier. There were some tire tracks on the apron — where the planes park. But, it could have been a car.

Yes, I know that the ‘Festival’ per se is next weekend, but in prior years we have had planes before and after the festival.

I plan to swing by on Sunday too, but we are expecting a ton of rain — which would not be conducive to flying.

Teischan is the best or worst of the lot. 40°F (4.4°C), ton of snow and in the middle of a frozen lake. To her it is HOT. Left her jacket in the van. Didn’t wear one all day. Luckily people don’t look at us as bad parents because it is patently clear that she is NOT cold. Yes,  40°F, ten years ago was sweatshirt weather for I too, but now in my dotage I do not take any chances. But, it is good to see her out there oblivious to the elements.
