‘Little Tokyo & Saigon’ — Amazing Place, Outstanding Food, Our New Place To Eat In Portsmouth.

This duck salad is beyond amazing. WOW.

2 blocks SOUTH of ‘Cinemagic’.

Little Tokyo & Saigon
2800 Lafayette Road, Portsmouth
(603) 427-8690

This was serendipity to the power of 2.

I knew that the ‘Downton Abbey’ movie we were going to see last night, at ‘Cinemagic‘, Portsmouth, was not going to finish till after 9pm. That meant that “Warren’s Lobster House“, our favored place for dining in Portsmouth for the last couple of years, was going to be closed. And not just them. Most of the restaurants in Portsmouth would also be closed. We know this. We have been in this boat before.

So, I did some Google researching before we left. This place was close, open till 10:30 and had an interesting menu. I definitely wanted to try the ‘Duck Salad’ if nothing else.

We got to the ‘Cinemagic’ 10-minutes ahead of schedule. So, I went and checked this place out before the movie. It is in a small mall, tucked in. You need to be looking for it. Now that I knew where it was, we got there, without issue, straight after the movie.

It is different inside. Green, bright, interesting lighting and just cozy and welcoming. Smelt divine.

What a place. Mainly ‘rich’ Asians. Great atmosphere. I loved it. My kind of place.

The Food. The Food.

What can I say other than it was way, way, way beyond expectations. Huge portions too. Given that it was late and there were two of us on strict diets I didn’t order much. even so we had three large containers of takeaway though we ate like there was no tomorrow.

The ‘Duck Salad’ was something else. It was so, so, so good. Teischan, no doubt the pickiest, fussiest and most critical eater in the whole world, tasted it — because I was raving about it — and liked it. Enough said. You can’t get higher praise than that.

Lovely service. Very friendly.

There was nothing one could find fault with. Good prices too.

Oh, they have fried ice cream.

We are going back. I will go back, though it is 1-hour away, just to eat there.

Highly, highly recommended.

Smile. I blew my diet. I think I gained 6 pounds!

Selfies My Way — On Turning 66 (Just For The Record).

Yes, you are free to steal these pictures.

Another supposed milestone come and gone. But, I really am NOT fussy about birthdays — given that I am adopted. So, can’t really be sure when I was actually born. Doesn’t matter. Not a major birthday, anyway. Last year I was eligible for Medicare. That was BIG. As far as I know there is nothing else I will get beyond that.

These were taken at “Warren’s Lobster House” in Kittery, Maine. They have a fairly big mirror. I think I have taken selfies there before.

“Warren’s Lobster House”, Kittery, Maine — Reflections Of The Sign II.

by Anura Guruge

It was raining and snowing all day. So, there were big puddles in the parking lot.

I noticed the reflection in a puddle as soon as I walked out of Warren’s. I had to take a picture.

Then I noticed that I can get the actual sign too. So, I did.

In February 2018 I had taken some other pictures of this sign reflected off car windows. So, this would complement that collection. Enjoy.

This was at “Warren’s Lobster House“, in Kittery, Maine — Teischan’s favorite restaurant, right now, because of the salmon. We go there quite often — including today.

Friday night.

What really got me going was this unsightly obese guy with a BIG cowboy hat. Warren’s is famous for its salad bar. Seeing him promenading around the salad bar in his hat was pathetic.

Then I noticed all the OLD MEN in baseball caps. They should no better.

Where have all the standards gone?

“Mint Bistro”, Manchester, NH — Most Expensive SALT In The World.

by Anura Guruge

We went to the ‘Mint Bistro‘, in Manchester, New Hampshire, for dinner on Tuesday, September 4, 2018. I had never heard of the place. My two older kids, who live in Manchester, were familiar with it and wanted to meet us there for dinner. Two of the kids wanted sushi and that appears to have been the draw. That they served lamb was supposed to be my enticement. Well, I never tasted any lamb that night. Just salt. Salt on skewers for $13 — and I don’t like salt and don’t add salt to my food. So, this salt did a real job on me. I hated that place.

So, it was for the 4 kids and I am always happy to indulge and pick-up the tab.

I am desperately trying to lose weight after my disastrous annual physical in August. So, had a v. light lunch and thought I would be all set if I ordered two tapas dishes. Well, the lamb skewers was a HUGE mistake. Just salt. Nothing else. SALT. SALT. SALT. Luckily the Lobster Rangoons were OK. On a par with what I am used to at “Warren’s” — our new favorite eating place. Tesichan (12), a chicken tenders connoisseur, was utterly unimpressed with her chicken tenders. So much so that she went on strike and would not even order dessert. That truly means that she is disgusted and wants to just go home. I felt real bad for her! I was hungry so I ate one of her chicken tenders.

I guess the sushi was OK. They didn’t complain.

But, I am NOT going back there again, even if somebody offered to buy me lunch or dinner. I do NOT like salt. Took me 2-days to flush all that damn salt out of the system — and you know how that works!

IF you like salt YOU will LOVE this place. The salt capital of New Hampshire.

P.S., They had a real clean, well lit men’s room with a great mirror — for selfies-my-way.

Main Sign — head on, at 8pm at night.

Reflections in car windows and edge on …

We — Teischan & I in particular — like Warren’s. Our 3rd time there this year in 6-weeks and it is ~40 miles from home.

Well tonight was Valentine’s and we headed there, straight away, after going to see “Peter Rabbit“.

I like taking pictures of their sign — as some of you may have noticed. Well this was the third time I did so.

But, tonight I noticed it reflected off cars. So, I took some of those reflections and a side-on shot.

This was true serendipity.

It was New Year’s 2018 & our 15th anniversary. We had gone to Portsmouth, NH, to eat somewhere ‘nice’ overlooking the water. Some of the restaurants in ‘Tugboat Alley’ were closed — no doubt because they must have been open late for ‘First Night’. Then I had the idea of going across the river to Kittery, Maine to see what they had next to the water. That is how we discovered “Warren’s Lobster House”. We have driven by it a few times and I have walked by it a few times too. But, we had never gone in.

We did ‘today’ — Monday, January 1, 2018.

Glad we did. GREAT EXPERIENCE. Our kind of place.

All the lunch/dinner meals come with soup and a salad bar — and the salad bar is GOOD. One of the best around here. Makes Ruby Tuesday’s look anemic.

Great service. Wine by the carafe.

We had the Lobster Rangoon special. That was not bad at all.

Teischan and I had salmon; hers plain mine with an amazing Maine blueberry glaze. Deanna had lobster stuffed haddock.

Food was good and there was enough. Great ambience, and even better views across the water.

Teischan had a fancy Sundae — which got rave reviews from her, and she knows her ice cream.

The attached ‘Gift Shop’ is cute and fun, and the ‘keys’ they give you to try and open the treasure chest entices you to visit. We bought some stuff.

Overall a warm, satisfying experience.

Will definitely recommend it to others.

I am already planning to go back! It was that good.

Made my day.
