Some Wedding Pictures From Saturday, October 19, 2019.

Nope, I don’t do wedding photography. I don’t think I am good enough, I don’t have the right equipment and worse of all I don’t know how to use PhotoShop.

So, I leave wedding photography to the professionals. I just point-and-click a few pictures, straight JPEG and post them out of the camera.

Here are six from the wedding we attended in Maine this last Saturday.

What makes these pictures even more special, than normal, is that I lost them! The SD card got corrupted. Luckily I was able to recover every single one.

Thought I should share so that you can enjoy.

Selfies My Way — 1st Time In A Suit In Nearly 4-Years (October 19, 2019)!

Yes, you are free to steal these pictures.

Anura Guruge suit October 2019

This was I just before dashing off to the wedding of my niece-in-law in Maine. Yes, that was our hotel room. What makes this selfie special for I is the suit. I haven’t been in a suit in nearly 4-years. Yes, I wore a blazer or jacket BUT not a full suit — let alone a 3-piece. For 30+ years of my life I lived in a suit at least 5-days a week — and most of them were 3-piece. Wearing a suit was the most natural thing for I. I used to own (smile) quite a few suits. During the time I lived in a suit, I would typically have between 7-10 at a time. I would never wear the same suit two-days running — and ideally not in the same week. I was always rack-size. Didn’t need bespoke suits. I could always get one from a rack — and worst case have the pant legs hemmed. Anywho … I had to buy this suit for the wedding. Got it from JC Penney. It was cheap. But it looks OK. SMILE.

Unstinted Praise & THANKS To ‘Wondershare’ ‘recoverit’ — Recovered All 300 Lost Wedding Pictures!

Just a sample of the pictures I had lost.

I had checked them on the camera and new I had WINNERS.

On Saturday we attended my niece-in-law’s wedding in Maine. I, luckily (and what would have been by choice), was not the official photographer. I am not good enough for that. They had two female professionals who had been flown in for the event.

But, I had been told to take some pictures. And that is never too much of an imposition since I do take (and publish) at least 7 pictures each-and-every day, 365/366-days a year, and have done so for at least 4-years.

I take around 26,000 pictures a year! I had NEVER lost a picture due to an SD card failure — ever. (Yes, I once lost some pictures on a SD card, but that was after I had downloaded them onto my PC.)

On Saturday evening, a few hours after the wedding, I did LOSE all the pictures!

I also know how and why. I tried to look at them, and copy them onto an USB stick (so I can give them to my sister-in-law), on a Samsung Chromebook! The bloody Chromebook ate my 64G SD card. Here is the crazy thing. Just a week earlier my wife had a total SD card failure on this Chromebook, BUT we never suspected that it was the bloody Chromebook that was damaging the cards.

I did NOT get upset! That is old age. I am much more sanguine about life and the curve balls it throws at me than I was even a year ago.

Yes, I knew there was recovery software I could try, but I couldn’t do that till I got home and had access to a proper PC.

Well, a couple of hours after we got home on Sunday — after I managed to get my damn Atlantic Broadband Internet service restored, I was ready to try some software.

We had already done some Googling and I had read up on ‘recoverit‘. Sounded promising.

There was no way I was going to mess around with FREE software. I did not want to risk corrupting the SD card any further.

Yes, I started with the FREE version of ‘recoverit’. When it told me, within seconds, that it had found 300 files I knew I was in business.

I stopped it. I uninstalled it. I paid the $60 and got the lifetime, PRO version. For $10 difference it made no sense just to get a 1-year license.

Since it scans the entire card, and it was a 64GB card, it took about an hour to locate all the files. It said it found about 900. Turns out that each picture was duplicated!

Once the files were found the recovery took less than 5-minutes.

‘Recoverit’ recovered ALL the files. I did NOT lose a single picture. Got everyone back.

Yes, I am happy.

I am impressed.

It would have been a shame to have lost these wedding pictures.

Word of warning. Do not take a SD card within 10′ of a bloody Chromebook! I am serious.

After the wedding, which finished at 3:30pm, I had gone to Camden — another of my favorite haunts in Maine. It was dark and I got some good pictures. They were on the card too. I was kind of disappointed that I had lost those. Wasn’t sure that I would ever get the same lighting again. Well, I got those back too.

Thank YOU, Wondershare.

As far as I am concerned you worked miracles.

Total, unstinted praise & endorsement.

Remembering, With Fondness, John P. Kimball II, JP (1948 — 2018).

by Anura Guruge

John P. Kimball II, on Jan. 1, 2003, at our wedding — he, as a JP, was our officiant.

Obituary picture.

In the Nov. 6, 2018, “Laconia Daily Sun”. Click to ENLARGE and read here. Link to original below.

Link to obituary — click.

At our wedding — where he was the JP — and he had a BALL.

December 31, 2012, Wolfeboro — ‘Sea Bird’ Chinese Restaurant — 10-year anniversary of John marrying us.

I do NOT get ‘The Laconia Daily Sun‘ on a regular basis — nor do I read it online. I just happened to pick up a copy this morning, at Hannaford, when I rushed into get some salmon.

When I got home I glanced through it. Saw an obituary for someone I knew and I worked with. That gave me pause. Then this rather strange thought crossed my mind. I have never seen the obituaries of two people I have known on the same. Why that thought crossed my mind I do not know …

Turned the page and there was John’s picture. I did NOT have to look at the name.

Another STRANGE coincidence. Last week I thought about John. That I had not seen him in some time and that I should rectify that. I just don’t go to Tilton much — and that is where we used to meet.

This was sad. I knew he was older than I, but I forget how much older.

It is a shame.

John was a GOOD GUY. Heart of gold. Always ready to help. Always a grin on his face. He will be missed. He was a very generous soul.

I met him, when I joined Laconia Rotary, in 2001. He was irrepressible and was immediately your friend.

In December of 2002 we needed a JP to marry us. I was told, by another friend in Rotary, that John was a JP. I called him. He agreed at once. Later I learnt that he was quite apprehensive — it would be his first wedding and we had some elaborate rituals.

He did GREAT. He did us proud. He took it very seriously. He insisted on going and getting us our certified marriage certificate and hand delivering it.

Over the years we had some memorable dining experiences with John — at our house, Uno’s in Tilton & the ‘Sea Bird‘ in Wolfeboro.

I will miss John. I wish I had spent more time with him.

Not sure what that claim in the obituary is about dying 25-days after being diagnosed with cancer. He had numerous bouts with cancer — mainly skin cancer. I know that. I also think he had prostate cancer. But, that is all now history. A shame. But, John lived the life. Yes, he, alas, had some setbacks but he took them well in his stride. I always admired him for that.

My Letter To The Queen Was Successfully Delivered To Buckingham Palace.

by Anura Guruge

This is a very serious matter to I. Which is why I wrote, extremely respectfully, to the Queen.

I now know that the letter, at a minimum, was safely (I trust) delivered to Buckingham Palace — by the trusty ‘Royal Mail’.

I know that somebody of semi-import will cast their eyes on it.

Not sure what will happen after that.

I am hoping that it will make it at least to one of the Queen’s Private Secretaries.

I am HOPING to hear back, but I am not holding my breath. If I indeed get any correspondence I will, of course, share with YOU.

Pretty prompt delivery. I mailed it around 3pm on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at the Alton Post Office.

It left Newark, NJ on Saturday, May 26, 2018. So, it missed the U.S. holiday on Monday.

So, 6-days from Alton, NH to Buckingham Palace isn’t too bad. I am cool with that — though I have to confess it was NOT cheap. I am so glad e now have e-mail and Facebook. International postal rates are a killer.

I Wrote To The Queen About The Kraut Wagon At The Royal Wedding.

by Anura Guruge

I was NOT joking when I said that I was upset at the Princes arriving in Windsor in a German wagon.

So, I wrote to the Queen!

That is what she is there for and I did NOT become a monarchist if I did NOT believe I could call upon my Royals when I perceive that a wrong has been done.

I am actually sure that this letter will get some attention. It might never make it to the Queen but somebody at Buckingham Palace will take note. I sent it ‘certified’ etc.

I was NOT going to let it pass.

This is important stuff and I KNOW that I will find an ear in the Palace.

I know one thing for sure. Nobody seeing the letter will accuse me of disrespect or not been a patriot. The letter is clear that this is a matter of patriotism.

I have faith in this Queen. It took me a long time to get there and there.

I will, of course, keep you posted.

Prince Harry Did GREAT With The Jaguar E-Type, But MESSED UP Badly With Kraut Wagon!

by Anura Guruge

How could they do this to US? How could they do this to ME?

Drive up in an ugly, black KRAUT wagon. WTF!

Beautiful, majestic British cars everywhere else Rolls Royces, Bentleys, Damilers, Jaguars …

And then this DISGUSTING German monstrosity.

Harry …. What were YOU thinking with?

I will NOT dredge up their German antecedents. We are beyond that.

But, why … oh, WHY?

You have enough Bentley’s in the family.

This was, to I, the LOW point of the day.

I really was crushed. I had to have a swig of wine to regain my composure.

I hate German bloody cars.

I love British cars.

This was CLASS.

British PRIDE.

We have Bentley’s and they don’t get ANY BETTER than that.

Queen’s Bentley.

Prince Harry’s Electric-Blue, Electric Jaguar E-Type Is A ‘Real’ Jag — Albeit A Concept.

by Anura Guruge

Click for more details from Jaguar.

I had NOT heard of this concept car, which had been unveiled in 2017. I guess it didn’t get much shrift in the U.S.

So, when I first saw it in the news — and read about it in the media — I thought it was a cruel ‘modification’.

I am kind of glad I am wrong. It is nominally a Jaguar and for that I am so happy. I, as you know, am a Jaguar lover and purists — and own two; a 2002 XJ8 and a 1989 XJS V-12 convertible (below).

So, anything that violates the proud Jaguar legacy does not sit well with I.

But, this was OK. I am happy.

It is a REAL Jaguar.

John Lennon & Yoko Ono Got Married This Day, In Gibraltar, 49-Years Ago; March 20, 1969.

by Anura Guruge

The 49th wedding anniversary has no name or gift attached to it. I guess you are marking time till the BIG one.

I am still unsure as to what I feel about Yoko!

I feel bad for her sometime … BUT …

I was a big Beatles fan and from my vantage Yoko messed up everything.

Wow, John was only 28.

I have, even to this day, never understood the attraction of marrying a MUCH older woman.

But, each to their own.

We can’t change history.
