The Sony a6500, though it has only been available as of November 29, 2016, is already at v1.02 of the firmware, 1.02 having been rushed out in early March to fix a rather nasty ‘dead camera’ scenario.

Version 1.01 was released on January 25, 2017 — just 57-days into its product life. Makes you think.

Version 1.02 was released 41 days later.

At this rate 1.03 should be out soon!

To be fair, the updating to 1.02 was easy, painless and quite quick. I didn’t time it, but I think it only took about 6 minutes. I could be wrong since I was not paying attention and was doing other things.

What I wanted to share with you was that updating to 1.02 was NOT an hassle.

Didn’t notice any changes after I did, BUT I have yet to run into any unexpected snags with this camera.

Updated The Firmware On My New Full-Frame Sony a7 II From 3.10 To 3.30.

Sony’s ‘Updater’ utility for Sony a7s — running on Windows 7.

Click image to access Forum post I started at DPReview.com

Firmware version 3.30 for Sony a7 II (i.e., ILCE7M2) was release on November 18, 2016.

Since I ordered my Sony a7 II from Cameta Camera (via Amazon) on May 11, 2017, I had just assumed that it would be at 3.30.

It was NOT!

It was at 3.10. There were ZERO (‘0’) shutter actuations and the camera does look new. So, I am hoping that this is STILL a brand new camera. IF SO, this does not make sense.

I have e-mailed both Cameta Camera and Sony seeking an explanation.

******

I was NOT happy being 2 version down on the Firmware.

So after some Googling to make sure that 3.30 was NOT a total dud, I went ahead and started the upgrade process this morning using the Sony instructions and tool.

On Windows 7 (64-bit) had to download the Sony ‘updater’ TWICE. First download was somehow corrupted and would not run. Though the download finished, without issue, the downloaded file was 169MB — when it should have been 219MB.

Second download was fine, and was 219MB.

After that everything went without a glitch.

Took 14- minutes — which is pretty damn close to the 15-minute Sony tells you.

So, I am happy with that. Not sure I notice any differences. That AF might be a tad faster might just be wishful thinking on my part.

This is all time … including last year which is when I started posting on this blog.

Of the 200,000+ hits, 165,800 are just from this year.

29,370 just from November 2013.

And to think that some people think that I only get hits from Alton!

But, this is NOT, of course, my only blog.

I own at least 20 … and I am afraid to count.

For the last 19 months this has been my the blog that I spend most time on.

But, my ‘Popes-and-Papacy‘ blog is by far the one that gets most traffic.

That has had 229,803 views for the year.

Since its inception in 2010 it has had 620,179 hits!

And I had a TypePad version of it prior to that … which I deleted one day in a fit of pique.

My ‘Windows 7’ blog, which has been dormant since 2010, has had 194,143 hits.

My ‘Papam’ blog, which I haven’t touched since March this year, is at 187,149.

So lets add it all up:
nhlife = 200,104
Popes-and-Papacy = 620,179
Windows 7 = 194,143
Papam = 187,149

1,201,575

And I have at least 4 other blogs that I could use to
bolster this count.
But, I won’t.

It doesn’t matter.

Has NOT made me rich or famous — as Deanna points out near daily.

But, it amuses me and that is all that matters.

One person, without any help, and without spending a dime on marketing,
1 million hits
spanning popes, Windows 7, astronomy, N.H., Alton, trains, brains,
red wine, restaurants, Poppy Day and sex …

100,000 Views Of This Blog Just In 2013 At An Average Of 423 Views Per Day.

>> This Blog inches towards 100,000 views — June 15, 2013.

No this is not old news. The last 100,000 post was in mid-June when this Blog was inching towards 100,000 all-time views.

Since then we are approaching, and will reach it today or tomorrow, 100,000 for THE YEAR.

We are still in August and we have had TRIPLE the hits  for all of 2012.

It, as they will always tell you, has all to do with content and perseverance.

Here are the first 8 posts on this blog MINUS the ‘Windows 7’ posts that I moved to my Windows 7 blog (which has an all-time hit count of 184,400).

I started this blog, in anger, when I found out that Dartmouth Hitchcock Clinic (DHMC) had quite literally abused me in the posterior! I wanted others to know so they could avoid getting violated.

I was no stranger to blogging. I already had multiple, quite active, pope blogs.

After the DHMC post I didn’t do another until I had a run-in with U.S. Cellular. Again the goal was to give others a heads up.

Then Windows 7 came along and I really got hooked on it – especially since I had this PC, handbuilt, for Windows 7. I started blogging incessantly about Windows 7. I also found many tips on how to get the best from Windows 7 and even how to fix some bugs. Suffice to say that these posts became very popular and remain so — since some of the bugs, such as the appearance of the annoying padlock, still persists. So I created a new ‘Windows 7’ blog and moved all the Windows 7 posts from this blog to that and then did my Windows-related posts on that blog. That blog still gets 100+ hits a day though I stopped posting on it way back in 2011. Just don’t have the time.

In February 2012 we started homeschooling Devanee because she was getting bullied at Alton Central School (ACS). Homeschooling proved to be a popular topic. That explains the spike in popularity in early 2012. Then the Olympics. My few Olympics posts were a hit. That is when I started posting here on a daily basis.

My ‘popes-and-papacy‘ blog has had 625,000 hits since 2010. That is another blog that I have now put to pasture. My ‘papam’ blog, also inactive, has had 184,000 hits. So 809,000 hits on just these two pope blogs.

Add the 133,956 from here and the 184,472 from Windows 7
and we have 1,127,812 hits!

Well all these hits hasn’t really made me rich — though of LATE we are seeing some ‘bennies’.

Just wanted to chronicle this, because that is what blogging is meant to be. Thanks. Cheers.

Yes, we did hit 100,000 on Saturday, August 24, 2013 as I had assumed in my earlier post.
