New Hampshire/Maine Radio Station, 94.9 FM, WMUR Has Already Started Playing Christmas Music!

by Anura Guruge

I had NOT listened to any radio in a few days. Unless I am in a car, I rarely listen to radio — & when I do it tends to be NPR.

Tonight, I tuned into 94.9, one of our favorite stations — also the one with best reception given that they have the most powerful transmitter around.

It took me a second to realize they were playing Christmas Music. Ah? Had to do a mental check on the date. November 8. Christmas music.

Then their ‘Christmas Music’ jingle came on. I was shocked.

Yes, 94.9 has ALWAYS been our Christmas Music station. But, Christmas music only started AFTER Thanksgiving. That was the tradition.

OK, last year it MIGHT have started the week of Thanksgiving. But, this is CRAZY. November 6?

Come on. That is too much of a good thing (though I am known to listen to SOME Christmas music year-round).

So Delighted & Relieved That Andrew Hosmer, A Great Person, Will Be The Mayor Of Laconia, N.H.

by Anura Guruge

From WMUR.com (N.H. local TV). Click to ENLARGE and marvel.

Click to access my post from 3-days ago.

This is great news. I was waiting for the results, on tenterhooks, all day. I kind of knew he would win, but you can never be sure.

Andrew Hosmer will be a GREAT MAYOR. Just what the doctor ordered for Laconia. Laconia will enjoy a renaissance under Andrew’s benevolent leadership.

I don’t live in Laconia, but I am sure glad for those that do. Life will be better with Andrew Hosmer.

Rejoice. A great day for Laconia.

He is genuinely good man.

Did I already mention that I was happy?

SMILE.

Wakefield [N.H.] Truck Driver Starts Driving 18-Wheeler With Trailer Raised!

by Anura Guruge

Click to access the WMUR TV story.

Pretty amazing. Driver claims he forgot he had raised trailer and that he didn’t notice it was raised when he came back to move the truck because it was dark. That seems hard to believe. Even in the dark you should be able to see the raised trailer towering above you.

Yes, I am also amazed that there is no visual/audible alarm that the trailer is raised.

He caused a lot of damage and disruption. Not going to be popular.

I am still in amazement.

TDS Telecom Having Issues With Internet & TDS TV In New Hampshire — Sunday, November 3, 2018.

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE and read. From Twitter … from @tdstelecom.

Yes, I noticed it as of around 10pm which is when I started watching TV. Wasn’t too, too bad. I was recording both the “Durrells” and “The Woman in White“. From what I can see they recorded OK though the live pictures I saw were breaking up and pixelated. Just to be on the safe side I scheduled for them to be recorded again, later tonight, on another PBS channel.

The outage must have been pretty bad because it made the WMUR 11pm news. They showed the above Twitter.

This is the first hiccup I have experienced with TDS TV since getting it in late August 2018.

I will keep you posted.

Per their Tweet they hope to have it resolved by now, i.e., midnight.

Bullying At School, Alas, Continues To Be A Problem In New Hampshire, BUT This Was Such A Great Response.

by Anura Guruge

Click image to access the NH ‘WMUR’ original.

If you do a search on ‘bullying‘ on this blog you will see that we have weathered more than our fair share of bullying at school — in Alton.

We were even forced to homeschool because of bullying.

There were 2 – 3 years when we tried hard, at the School Board, level to try and get the school to respond to bullying.

This, from a 5th grader, was GREAT, BUT it was horrifying to hear the stuff they had been threatening her with. Those bullies should be in police custody.

School bullying is still a BIG problem, across the world.

We need this kind of intervention.

BRAVO. Kudos.

I had to share this with you.

2017 New Hampshire Foliage Heads South — Sunday, August 27.

I heard on the local New Hampshire news last night (i.e., on WMUR) that foliage has started ‘up North’. Well we have foliage in the Lakes Region too. This was at the Alton Rotary (Circle) today. Complete trees turning color. The temperature has dropped into the 50s°F the last three night. That will sure get the foliage going.

New Hampshire Libraries Out Of Solar Eclipse Glasses For Monday — As Are Stores!

You might still be in luck with some of the other libraries.

Be careful with what you find in local stores. They might not be ‘good‘ (i.e., strong/dark) enough.

Might be getting too late for ordering online. But, you could try.

All the best. The skies over New Hampshire should be CLEAR for Monday’s PARTIAL solar eclipse over New Hampshire.

March 21, 2016, ‘First Day Of Spring’ Snow In New Hampshire Lakes — WMUR Was Wrong.

by Anura Guruge

Much more snow that I was led to believe. I didn’t watch the WMUR forecast last night — I was too engrossed in watching the highlights of Sri Lanka v West Indies on Willow TV.

But I did interrupt by #ICCWT20 viewing to catch the forecast on Saturday night. WMUR was emphatic. Snow would be to the South and East of Concord. Well we are to the North of Concord. So I was surprised by how much we got. Probably 4″ and a bit more in some places.

I shoveled BECAUSE I like to shovel. I have never denied not being strange. It was easy to shovel. Very light, very fluffy. It was beginning to melt as I was shoveling as the temp. was rapidly rising above 32°F. It was nice. Gave me an excuse not to run since it is an hour of shoveling or ‘the run’. The dogs were OK. I took them for a walk and they could play outside while I shoveled.

All the pictures taken with my Panasonic Lumix LX100.
