Yes, I know that there is no reason, whatsoever, for me to feel sorry for Imran Khan, but I do. Yes, Imran had the world at his feet, and all the women he ever desired at his beck and call, all his adult life. He enjoyed a level of success in every sphere, and particularly with women, that strugglers like I can only gape at in amazement.

I have always liked Imran, 11 months my senior — despite the few controversies, in and out of cricket, that he got embroiled in. He was one heck of a cricketer. Always exciting whether batting, bowling or fielding. He was a giant. I have seen him in person a few times when we were both in England at the same time. Once, famously, I saw him in the car park of the Hampshire Cricket Club, Southampton Grounds, canoodling with a young lady. I did say “Hi, Imran” as I walked past. It would have been rude not to acknowledge him.

Other than all the pleasure he has given me as an outstanding cricketer, there are two things in my life that relate directly to him in one way or another.

1/ The title of my first, and financially my most successful book, “SNA: Theory and Practice“, in 1984, was conjured by a rather brilliant young lady who was an ex-SNAbook1FSgirlfriend of Imran’s during his time in Oxford. She was in charge of marketing for the publisher. I did not have a title for the book. But I explained to her what it was about and how I structured the book to first explain the architecture and then how the architecture was implemented. I was thinking along the lines of “SNA: Architecture and Implementation”. She came up with the much better title. Given that she knew that I was a cricket fanatic she would remind me, every time we met, that she knew Imran in the Biblical sense. Wish I could remember her name. So that is the first connection.

imranbook

2/ Imran explained to me why I so often get accused of being arrogant. Since Imran cleared it up for me it no longer bothers me, not that it bothered me overly, at any time, arrogance a great body armour against slights such as that. I couldn’t help it and still can’t. Despite my best efforts I can come across as arrogant and I am. Imran, in his 1988 book, “All Round View“, explained to me why he and I are both arrogant — though he, obviously, has better reasons to be so, than I. In 1988 I was living in the U.S. but had bought the book in one of my many trips back home. I was reading it one night, in bed, when I came across this paragraph about how his parents had brought him up to be arrogant. It was an Eureka moment. I sat up in bed. I realized. My (adoptive) parents too had brought ME up to be arrogant. It was a part of how we were brought up. Cultural. We, the first generation of post-independence kids to aspiring upper middle class families, were expected to be arrogant. It all became clear. Since then I don’t give a jot when my wife accuses me of insufferable arrogance. What can I do? My (adoptive) parents brought me up to be so. If you don’t believe me, ask Imran.

Anyhow. I feel bad for Imran. This was unnecessary. But I doubt whether he has any shortage of women clamoring to provide him with sucor.

All the best Imran. You deserve the best. Cheers.

I KNEW that this bunch of pussies, masquerading as the West Indies, would NOT get 200.

They are so pathetic it is hard to comprehend.

Marilyn Samuels is taking way too much ‘ganja’. He should be deported.

I gather Gary Sobers is in Colombo to see these girls try and play cricket. I feel bad for Gary. He was a man. And these these are a bunch of girls presents him with a problem. He can’t go into the dressing room and kick each of them on their bum. You can’t kick women.

I am so disgusted with this bunch. Yes, some of them batted like I used to — BUT that was why I NEVER played Test cricket. I am so disgusted. Don’t know why I watch.

When they bowled out Sri Lanka for 200 I was thinking that it was such a shame that it wasn’t 202 or even 201 BECAUSE I had visions that Sri Lanka might have still been able to get these (and I am trying very hard not to use a derogatory term to refer to the genitalia of this bunch) to FOLLOW ON!

Women-cricket

To make it worse about 6 seem to having their monthlies and the others act as if they are having some wicked morning sickness.

This is NOT fair on Sri Lanka. It denigrates their performance — though Chandimal’s catch to dismiss Dorothy Bravo was World Class in any match.

This is CRAZY. The World’s First Men vs. Women cricket Test Match.

Let me tell you it does NOT work. It is a different league.

That Sri Lanka managed to score 848 runs doesn’t matter because the West Indies girls dropped at least 20 catches.

This is a bloody travesty.

This week I am going to write a letter to the London ‘Times’ asking for the ICC to displace the West Indies from International Cricket. There is NO nation called ‘West Indies’ and significance and beauty of International cricket is that it is played between Nations.

Another worthy cause and how can you not endorse it.

As with most of these ’causes’ I happened to see it in the U.K. “Daily Mail” — which I read, online, on my pad, every morning, first thing, while at the same time listening to CNBC (and drinking my first cup of coffee (provided by Deanna)).

I know that many of you rely on me to keep you abreast on these type of causes and I am happy to oblige. SMILE.

This is SO clever and so to THE POINT.

I love it.

Talk about making a statement.

I would love to see a bunch of women descending on Gilford Beach (NH) in these to see what the reaction would be.

Yes, in some ways it is ‘regressive’ in that females should NOT have to wear such tops just to exercise a basic right that they DO HAVE — in most place — by law.

That they are supporting some of the ‘female topless’ movements makes it even more laudatory.

The choice of name intrigues me.

‘Tata’ is ‘dad’ in both Yiddish and my native Sinhalese (though it is sometimes spelt ‘tatta’). Then there is the GIANT Indian ‘Tata Group‘ which among other things now own (my beloved) Jaguar brand.

speedo1On Monday of this week we were staying at the “Wonder View Inn” in Bar Harbor, Maine; our room was right above the outdoor pool. While brushing my teeth I could hear, what sounded like a family, with a dog, frolicking about in the pool area — though the bathroom blind was pulled down. Then I hear Teischan (9) exclaim from the bedroom “there is a man swimming in his underwear”. I didn’t have to look. I knew exactly what she was commenting about. The man must have been wearing a ‘speedo’. That a man wearing a speedo would elicit a comment from MY daughter perturbed me — slightly. It is true she had never seen me at a pool or on a beach in a ‘speedo’ — though as an European ‘speedos’ were my de rigueur bathing suit UNTIL the Summer of 1987 — 28 years ago.

So what is the deal here?

Thinking about it made me realize that the issue is no different to the “Free the Female Nipple” conundrum. I did a quick Google. Appears that when it comes to laws you are in the same court as that for female toplessnes. Most places do NOT have any laws specifically banning speedos — in much the same way that at least 48 of the States do not have any explicit laws about female toplessness. Yes, you can find a few reports that men have been cited for wearing speedos — usually under the all encompassing ‘disturbing the peace’ law.

Indecency laws only require the genitals to be covered and a speedo does that.

Furthermore, as was the case in Bar Harbor, foreigners wearing speedos, as far as I know, are never told off or cited. And from 1985 to 1987 I wore speedos in the U.S., albeit mainly around hotel swimming pools or beaches in Tampa and Oahu, without ever having anybody say anything about it.

Then we have swim/dive teams and competitions. All the men, including those from the U.S., wear speedos. So IF there is a swim meet taking place in a U.S. pool the men will wear speedos but speedos are not deemed acceptable for recreation. What gives?

And now the supreme irony. Women can wear the skimpiest bikinis and that is acceptable while men can’t wear speedos.

Why the double standard?

In Europe female toplnessness and men in speedos (quite literally) go hand-in-hand.

Yes, it does have to do with a stubborn streak of puritanicalness that still permeates U.S. society. It is all about decency and modesty. I understand and as I said this is an issue that I confronted, personally, 28 years ago.

It must have been May or July 1987. I, newly married, went to a family cookout in Massachusetts. They had a pool and I wore a speedo — since that was all I had. My (then) wife didn’t say anything and she had seen me in speedos. Nobody said anything to me about my speedo all day. They used to kind of like me those days. I wore the speedo, with nothing else, as was my then wont, most of the day. I was ultrafit those days — fasting 3 times a week, running 7.5 miles most days and doing 100 sit-ups and 100 push-up a day. So I didn’t have anything really to hide or cover up. But on the way home I was informed that wearing speedos was not the ‘American way’ and that I needed to get some ‘proper’ U.S. swim trunks. I never gave it much thought — 28 years ago. But now it has got me thinking. Ironically I am the same weight now as I was 28 years ago. But I am now 62 and though I still run my total exercise regime is 1/8 of what it used to be.

As with female toplessness I believe that there should be certain, self-imposed standards, as to whether one should wear a speedo or not. I think the 25 BMI mark should be a good demarcation point. I still make the 25 BMI but I am not sure whether I should subject innocent folks to even more of my body than they are now subjected to given that I am, during the Summer, habitually topless — and, at a minimum, do my 40 – 45 minute run, 6 days a week, topless.

But something for all U.S. men to think about.

What is the deal with wearing speedos? In the same way that we want to free the female nipple we should also strive to free the male speedo. They really do go hand-in-hand.

As somebody who lived in Gilford for 8 years (6 of it 2 doors away from ‘THE’ beach) I am distressed that these two citations were issued for toplessness on the beach. It never even occurred to me that there were beach specific ordinances. One thing that totally puzzles me is the statement that the police ASKED if any of the women wanted to be cited! That seems very incongruous and could be interesting when the case comes up in front of a judge in October. That said I am glad that this came to be. Now the legality of such ordinances can be put to the test. A claim that Gilford beach is ‘private’ made me chuckle. IF I remember right you need a ‘beach pass’ to bring a vehicle to the beach. Wonder whether this ‘private’ aspect will now raise its ugly head. Yikes.

I am so proud of the Laconia Police! That they showed undue restraint at Weirs is magic. Kudos to the department and the Commissioners.

Well, this is progress.

WeirsBeach-1I do have skin in this game in that I, for much longer than any of the recent ‘advocates’, have been bemoaning the lack of toplessness in the U.S. (given my European background).

I really would like to see women actively ENJOY the freedom and rights they currently have in New Hampshire.

So to find out what is happening at Hampton Beach, post the infamous Sunday, August 23, 2015, “Free The Female Nipple” event I called up, at noon today, the “Hampton Beach Village District” (at 603-926-8717) to find out how much TOPLESSNESS they have seen at Hampton Beach of late.

According to the gentleman I spoke — nothing, NADA. According to him, “they have come and gone and it was just for that one day”. I pressed him twice. He is adamant that there have been NO female toplessness at Hampton Beach since Sunday, August 23, 2015. He could be wrong. It is a big beach and I doubt whether people would have been running into his office to report any and every ‘sighting’. I hope he is wrong. It would be a shame IF women are NOT exercising their RIGHT — if, of course, they want to. To me that is key. They should only do this if it is something they really want to do. There should be no pressure. I just wish MORE women here had hand-on experience of what it is like in Europe. I knew a lady who once pointed out, talking about a beach in Holland, “it is much easier to be topless at the beach than keeping your top on. When you are topless nobody notices you. But, if you keep your top on everybody looks at you!” That should be what it is here.

What was funny was that you could tell, quite clearly, that he was NOT in favor of female toplessness at Hampton. I pointed out to him that females do have the RIGHT to be topless, if they so wished. He was FUNNY. He told me: “For now. That could change”! YEP.

He obviously is following what is happening. It is he who told me that an event is planned for Weirs Beach, this weekend, and that that could be interesting in that there are ordinances in Laconia against that. I concurred him on that. Yes, Laconia does have an ordinance BUT I will be curious whether they will enforce it. BUT it would appear that people — like this gentleman — are keeping tabs. IF he knows, then folks in Laconia must know too. Interesting.

So just a heads. We do NOT plan to be at Weirs. Going to Hampton Beach was enough.

These two were taken by Deanna.

You have already seen some of the pictures I took, at Hampton Beach, on Sunday, August 23, 2015 — the day of the supposed BIG show.

These two pictures were taken by Deanna, with her camera. In the first I am striding, purposefully as ever, towards a seated group, with what I think were two topless women, who are doing an videotaped interview with ‘Zach’ who was planning to make a documentary of the ‘Free The Female Nipple‘, New Hampshire movement.

The picture I took of this group appears at the top of this post and you can, by all means, click on it to get a better view. They wouldn’t let me take a picture of them. C’est la vie. No great loss to humanity.

I then started chatting with Zach and asked him to interview me because I wanted to go on record as to what I thought of this ‘event’. I doubt whether you will find anybody more supportive of female toplness than I. But the Hampton Beach event was lame and nothing but an ill conceived, cheap publicity stunt by a few women who were desperately seeking their ’15 minutes in the sun’ though that was hard to come by that Sunday. There is nothing to PROTEST! Toplessness is permitted in NH. Just exercise YOUR RIGHT without trying to draw attention. That is what would work.

Now we will most likely see NEW legislation — whether constitutionally valid or otherwise. This event was regressive.

What has happened since. August 23rd was 8 days ago. How many women have exercised their LEGAL RIGHT of going topless at Hampton Beach? Does anybody know? What about other beaches and parks. It does NOT have to be beaches. Parks are fine too and anybody who has walked across a park in Germany in the Summer will know that topless sunbathing, by women, is the most natural thing in the world. That is something else. The so called ‘organizers’ of this NH movement. How many of them have been to Europe and seen, first hand, what casual, ‘most natural thing in the world’ female toplessness is all about.

My point when it comes to showing the female nipple is very simple and straightforward. JUST DO IT. Don’t make a fuss about it. Don’t attract attention. Just do it.

And PLEASE don’t bring in breastfeeding into this. Yes, I have hands on experience with that too and I will contend that I have more experience than any TWO of the so called organizers put together. No, of course, I did not breastfeed BUT I was around. My youngest was breastfed for 27 months. 27 months. My oldest for over 18 months and my 2nd oldest for about 14 months. That is 59 months of breastfeeding. Close to 5 years and these kids were breastfed on planes, airports, beaches, parks, restaurants, hospitals, malls, concerts … wherever. Yes, I had words with a FEW people over those years. BUT it was never a problem. So, PLEASE … don’t confuse the issue with something that is not part of the issue.

The issue here, from my perspective is very simple. Just go ahead and do it. The law is CURRENTLY on your side.

You can’t legislate ACCEPTANCE. I know. Discrimination based on skin color is illegal. But that doesn’t stop me running into that on a near daily basis. But I am not going to cry ‘boo-hoo’ and ask for acceptance to be legislated. That will not happen. I live with it.
