I could be wrong, but it could be the same lighthouse, i.e., Nobska Lighthouse, in Woods HoleMassachusetts.

I get a ‘Nikon Rumors‘ e-mail every night.

It just struck a chord — a funny one at that.

They are both fullframe cameras. So, it is an apples-to-apples comparison. Yes, I appreciate the Nikon one is supposed to be the view through the optical viewfinder. Nonetheless, I think my pictures has richer, warmer colors. {Smile}

This classic lighthouse is not in Woods Hole per se — just on the outskirts, on a side road so to speak.

We did not see it on our first two trips to Woods Hole (albeit both trips on the same day). I, however, did not want to leave Falmouth, Mass., without seeing this lighthouse. So on our 4th day, at the Cape, I made a special trip just to see the Nobska Lighthouse. It was worth it. There is parking for 5-6 cars right in front of the lighthouse and we were but the 3rd car there. Compared to the crush in Woods Hole, this place was empty. Nice little path to a rocky but scenic beach.

This lighthouse was very different to the ‘Monhegan Lighthouse’ on Monhegan Island that I had spent much time at just two weeks earlier. This did NOT have the elevation and as such the views. But it is definitely on a much busier stretch of water with large ferries going by all the time. Oh yes, definitely worth stopping by IF you are in the area.

Another delightful (and quintessential) New England coastal town (maybe a village in this case) with an abundance of glorious flowers. Bustling place, a ferry hub for Martha’s Vineyard. Took the $2 trolley bus from Falmouth, MA for our first visit because I did not want to contend with the parking. Think it was the right decision. Drove down in the evening and lucked out with the parking.

Enjoy.

It is FREE (i.e., U.S. taxpayer funded), it is intimate and it is impressive. We (i.e., Teischan & I) enjoyed thoroughly — and Teischan is a connoisseur of aquariums.

Exactly 15-days earlier we had visited the ‘Maine State Aquarium’ in Boothbay Harbor. That too was a small aquarium — albeit with a nominal admission fee (e.g., $7 for adults). Woods Hole was better with a more extensive array of tanks and an interesting ‘backstage’ area. They are both set by the ocean, with the Boothbay facility better situated on a much larger area. That said, the Woods Hole aquarium is right in the middle of the town just to the side of one of the main parks.

An Heads Up: The seal display is NOT in service right now. Appears the last seal died in July. Appears that they want to refurbish the outside seal tank before they even think about getting any new seals.

This aquarium is part of the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) — the National Marine Fisheries Service to be precise. They claim that it, established in Woods Hole in 1885, is the oldest aquarium in the U.S. It is NOT Mystic nor Boston but it is well worth a visit and the price is just right. {SMILE}
