My wife sent me the link to this — she having seen it on a local library site.

Beyond Cool. WOW.

The library had suggested a radio station in western Ireland. I tried a few there.

Then I did the OBVIOUS, for I. I tried Sri Lanka. WOW. WOW. WOW.

This is amazing. This is magical.

Yes, it is eating up Internet bandwidth. SMILE.

But, you have to try it.

Coronavirus COVID-19 Death Rates Vary Significantly By State — New Hampshire Doing Quite Well.

by Anura Guruge

One thing is obvious. Death rate is higher when a State gets inundated.

That explains New York.

People are dying because they are not getting adequate care. Scary.

I am semi-numerate and could tell, at a glance, when it appears on TV, that the New Hampshire death rate was WAY BELOW that of New York. Drove me crazy that nobody was showing the percentages. So, I did it. I didn’t do it for all the States. Hence the gaps … indicated by black rows.

States with low cases — for now — have less deaths because they have the resources to treat the patients better. Pretty self-evident.

So. Thought you might find this interesting.

These numbers STILL REALLY mean NOTHING
since they are CONTINGENT
on the % of people TESTED.

They are ONLY meaningful IF enough people are tested.

These numbers REALLY mean NOTHING
since they are CONTINGENT
on the % of people TESTED.

They are ONLY meaningful IF enough people are tested.

Otherwise the Death % and Per Capita numbers are terribly skewed.

The figures for India obviously can’t be true.

The German numbers need to be looked at!

The U.S. numbers — again skewed by inadequate testing — are middle of the road.

They will go up over the next couple of weeks. That we can be sure of.

U.S. Coronavirus COVID-19 Death Rate INCREASED — As Of Yesterday.

TODAY’s rate compared to yesterday’s.

For yesterday’s post.

In reality U.S. rate might be actually lower —
IF more tests had been done to identify more cases.

So, these numbers and rates STILL reflect inadequate testing.

I didn’t do all the countries today.

Just U.S. and Italy.

The rate is going UP. Not good.

U.S. Coronavirus COVID-19 Death Rate Compared To Other Countries — NOT The Best; NOT The Worst.

Per total cases.

Highest rate to lowest.

Lowest rate to highest.

INTERESTING.

Italy’s death rate defines explanation.

U.K. NOT doing too well either.

Interesting to note those of Germany, Austria & Canada. Countries noted for good health care.

Think – Today: Is The ‘Guinness Book Of Records’ In The ‘Guinness Book Of Records’?

by Anura Guruge

thinktodaybanner

recordsThis came to mind the other day. It is what I think of as ‘recursive thinking‘. So is the ‘Guinness Book Of Records’ a holder of one or more records that would make it worthy of inclusion within itself? What do YOU think?

Think first, then research, then THINK again. Think for the pleasure of thinking.

Yesterday’s ‘Think’: “Number of countries currently in Africa” — 54! Look it up.

Think – Today: How Many Countries In Africa These Days (Give Or Take 10)?

by Anura Guruge

thinktodaybanner

africa_ad1960Any idea? Like I said ± 10 will be a good start. I think many of you will be surprised. In my youth, which was indeed a long time ago, when the world was a much simpler place, I knew most of the countries that were in Africa — since there wasn’t that many. But, now … WOW!

Think first, then research, then THINK again. Think for the pleasure of thinking.

Yesterday’s ‘Think’: “Percentage Of the World’s Male Population That Is Circumcised” — At most 35% (but probably lower, with some now claiming that it may be as low as 20%). Much of the population that is circumcised is Muslim and that is close to 600 million. Circumcision is NOT common at all in China nor India. And interesting it is also NOT that prevalent in Europe! Google it. Plenty of resources.

Think – Today: What Percentage Of the World’s Male Population Is Circumcised?

by Anura Guruge

thinktodaybanner

399087054It is something that is worth thinking about. Would you have your son circumcised? If it is good for one then one has to assume that more than 50% of the world’s male population is circumcised. Is it?

Think first, then research, then THINK again. Think for the pleasure of thinking.

Yesterday’s ‘Think’: “How much air do we breathe in a day” — on average around 2,665 GALLONS (U.S.) a day! [Maybe a bit more, even getting close to 3,000 gallons.] That is air. Oxygen is 20% of that. 2,665 gallons a day is impressive. That is nearly 80,000 gallons a month. 960,000 gallons a year. In a 70-year life close to 65 million gallons.

‘ONE World Sports’ (on Sling/Roku) Totally Screwed Up England v. Sri Lanka 2nd Test Highlights.

by Anura Guruge

oneworldsportssl

It is frigging amazing how much disservice we get on Roku/Sling when it comes to cricket.

Willow managed to ruin the 2016 ICC World Twenty20 with their inability to show the correct matches.

And now ‘One World Sports’ has caught the bug.

2nd Test Day 2 highlights were not broadcast on Saturday night — in the allocated 10pm slot!

On Sunday, in the 10pm slot allocated for Day 3 highlights, they showed Day 2! Actually they showed Day 2 highlights — TWICE, back-to-back, 9pm and 10pm!

Couldn’t even see Day 3 highlights Monday morning. Yet again they are showing Day 2 when the Program Guide says Day 3.

Idiots.

MY West Indies, ICC World Twenty20, #ICCWT20, Champions 2016!

by Anura Guruge

westindies2016wint20

I watched the entire game, every single ball, LIVE. I got out of bed at 9am (crack of dawn for me) to make sure that I was downstairs, in front of my 47″ HDTV screen, ready for the match.

It was one heck of a game. Towards the end, it was so good, I really didn’t care who won.

But you have to admit that the 51% to 49% in favor of West Indies that I predicted two days ago truly reflected the outcome and the match.

Do I regret my scathing comments on Marlon Samuels. Not really. He did OK. But that is what he is payed to do. Let’s not forget that. HE did NOT win the match. Carlos Brathwaite WON the match. 19 off the last over (a T20 final record) would have been beyond Marlon’s reach or for that matter most of the others in the team. So do NOT tell me that Samuels got the Windies to victory. His innings was scratchy. Yes, he held it together but he didn’t score fast enough.

In many ways it was a FLUKE victory. Four 6s in a row. That was a lot to ask for.

But in the end I am delighted. Happy for the likes of Carlos. Made my day. Glad I watched it live.

GRIN.
