I know roughly where his mansion is in Wolfeboro, N.H.

It is by Winter Harbor — near what used to be the quaint, sloping Wolfeboro (Lakes Region) Airport.

He has, for obvious reasons, never invited me to his place for ‘drinks’ (non-alcoholic and non-caffeinated) since I am, in his rich books, a 47%er. No harm. I wouldn’t have him around for drinks either. Given that I circulate in strange circles, I do, however, know folks who have been to his mansion. I gather he likes to give ladies ‘architectural’ tours of the house and show them all the bedrooms he has. Bully for him.

The Marriotts, fellow Mormons with the Mittens, have a palace close-by, with a HUGE, and I mean HUGE, granite, 3 berth boathouse. I have delivered takeout to them when I had WOWNH — Waiters on Water (WOW). Mittens never ordered any takeout.

Well that looks like Lake Winnipesaukee in the Summer for multiple reasons: the gray gabled roof on the boathouse, the lush greenery, the STONES all along the bank and the low hills in the background.

It is a shame he didn’t give Wolfeboro and our lake a plug in this picture.

GoDaddy NEW CUSTOMERS ONLY pricing for Web hosting.

GoDaddy NEW CUSTOMERS ONLY pricing for Web hosting.

My historic WOWNH.COM Website that I have had since 1998. Check it out.

My historic WOWNH.COM Website that I have had since 1998. Check it out.

I have been a loyal and lucrative GoDaddy customers for at least 12 years. There were years, when I hosted large numbers of Websites for myself and others, that I paid over $1,500 a year (quite gladly) to GoDaddy.

Even now I am probably paying upwards of $500 a year to GoDaddy.

I have been an ARDENT FAN for a decade. I can’t even count the number of referrals I sent their way.

And ‘yes’ there have been times when GoDaddy has been amazingly good to me — like earlier this year during the papal transfer when my popes-and-papacy blog, hosted on GoDaddy, was getting 150 connection requests per second. Of course I have publicly thanked GoDaddy for their help.

But, something has happened at GoDaddy, to OUR DETRIMENT, over the last 6 months. Yes, I know that there has been change of management at the top. Well, he better get his act together SOON because I am cancelling my products at GoDaddy at quite a rate.

I still have five or six Websites hosted at GoDaddy and yes, every year, I have to renew them.

Yesterday I had to renew ‘wownh.com‘. wownh.com, like guruge.com, has now become basically a ‘placeholder’ site. I don’t do anything on them, mainly because I built them with FrontPage and I can’t be bothered to use FP anymore. Blogging is easier and less time consuming. But, I want to preserve my Web presence since I have had these sites, uninterrupted, for over 12 years.

GoDaddy wants $9/month — $108/year — for hosting these Websites. That is crazy. They offer the EXACT SAME hosting package as I am renewing for half the price to new customers. But, I can’t renew at that price.

Their solution: I can cancel my current hosting, buy a new plan and then re-install the Website.

THANK YOU, GoDaddy.

That is EXACTLY what I am going to do … but not with YOU. Thank YOU.

This will give me the excuse to get away from FP and move to a template-based, in-the-cloud solution.

I have already spent 2 hours (that I really don’t have) looking at, with amazement, at Weebly, Wix & Yola.

I already have an account at Weebly.

I didn’t have the time to port across wownh.com yesterday. So I renewed it for a year — PLUS they owed me $21 that I could apply to the $108. But, that will be the LAST HOSTING that I am going to be paying GoDaddy.

Teischan.com is due for renewal on November 28, 2013. This is the PERFECT Website for me to mess around with learning a new template-based system. It is not ‘mission-critical’ and it is very simple and ‘flat’. So, that is the plan.

Once I master the new system I will recreate all the other sites on that platform — though I get a feeling that I may opt to use both Yola and Wix.

Stay tuned.

I was so mad yesterday that I immediately cancelled my GoDaddy Online File Folder though it was not due for renewal till the end of January 2014! I didn’t even bother to export the 100MB of data I had stored there! Screw it. I have other backups. I LOVE and I do mean LOVE Google Drive. It is so easy and convenient to use through Chrome. No need to logon. It is always there.

This is so sad. I would have stayed with GoDaddy. I like to be a loyal, long-term customer UNLESS I feel that I am being raped.

I hope the new GoDaddy management sees the light sometime soon BEFORE it is too late.

Boat Ride On Lake Winnipesaukee (NH), Alton – Wolfeboro, Glorious Fall Foliage Day, September 30, 2013.

We are no strangers to Lake Winnipesaukee. When we lived waterfront on the lake we should to go out, by boat (or jet ski), quite a bit.

When I was a part of “Waiters on Water“, where we delivered take-out food to the Islands and moored boats on Lake Winnipesaukee, by boat or jet ski, I used to be on the water, every day during the Summer, sometimes multiple times a day.

Though I swim in the Big Lake (i.e., Winnipesaukee) without fail every year, off the Alton public dock, this was the first time we have been on the lake in a boat since we moved to Alton in 2007.

A local marina owner in Alton, an Alton famous fixture, invited us for a boat ride in his amazing, 1967 wooden Lyman. I used to be his customer 1993 – 1997. That was two decades ago.

Today, the day before the government shutdown, weatherwise on the Lake, was picture perfect: warm, sunny, calm as it gets and hardly any boat traffic. We actually didn’t see any boats in Alton Bay per se. That is pretty amazing. Not good, however. Boat traffic on this lake has plummeted noticeably over the last decade. These days I repeatedly hear that our mandatory ‘Boating Certificate‘ (I call it the boat license) is a factor. I can believe that. I don’t have one. 2007 was when I needed to get one. I wasn’t boating that year so I didn’t get it. Haven’t bothered since. Might get it, or TRY to get it, next year. Something I learned today: ONLY NH and Louisiana have such mandatory boating certification — and LA does not require that you sit a test! So the ‘Live Free, Or Die‘ state is the only one that requires boaters to pass a test. Seems wrong, especially in terms of the ‘Live Free’ — THOUGH I fully understand that this is to stop people killing others. Anyhow …

Not sure of the legality of the ATV aspect in NH. Never owned an ATV so not sure what the laws are. But, I sure know places in NH that you could drive an ATV and then go straight into a lake.

One of my many unfulfilled dreams, this albeit from the dot.com era when many of us had more money than sense, was to create an amphibious SUV – and please remember gas was ~$1 gallon then. I came up with some designs. My goal was to have a SUV that you could drive up to Glendale Docks in Guilford with your groceries and then go straight into the lake to your place on an island. Remember, I had a boat-based take out delivery business in those days — Waiters On Water (WoW). That is why I still own www.wownh.com.

These puppies are around $40,000. That is bagatelle for many around here. So I can definitely see them around this Summer. No dealers as yet in NH — and yes, I did, for a second, think about becoming a Quadski Dealer.

Check it out.
